The social contagion/peer-driven troonism doesn't seem to really affect adult women. You see it a little bit in college-aged women (though they usually become "non-binary" instead of full blown troons), but for the most part TIFs who troon out in adulthood (as in, 18 and over) seem to come in three flavors:
Woman who was molested/raped and transitions out of lingering issues with her body and her belief that being a "man" will prevent her from being victimized again
Depressed butch lesbian (occasionally, butchy bi woman), transitions since not even people in LGBT circles are telling her she's not really a woman, thinks dating will be easier as a man
Femcoomer who watched too much gay porn as a teenager, transitions purely out of desire to fulfill her fetish of being a gay man
Most detransitioners fit into category 1 or 2, and most start to detransition by their mid-late 20's. I agree that women shouldn't be infantilized by suggesting TIFs only troon out due to outside forces, but it's not like their peers are the only ones drinking the TRA koolaid- the entire medical establishment supports transitioning wholeheartedly. So I was recommended the 'Well there's your problem' podcast and on the first listen was suprised to hear some very obviously male person announce that they were called Alice and had female pronouns. It actually made me remember what Contra said, specifically about how his presance would create awkwardness as every other person in the room would have to announce their own problems no matter how obvious or unecessary this might have been. I was actually a little bothered since this 'Alice' was clearly making no effort even to sound female, and as I was paying more attention to him I quickly found that he brought almoat nothing to the podcast except semi-braggy anecdotes about living in Russia, so I didn't both pursuing it further (a shame, because I like hearing about engineering disasters).

I actually agree with you on this and I didn't mean to imply otherwise -- of course young women are adults who are fully responsible for their own actions and to suggest otherwise is infantilizing and anti-feminist. I have no doubt a lot of the mentally unstable trender FtMs would probably find another way to destroy their lives while gaining oppression points (eg. HAES girlcows). I was speaking to the issue posed by the post about the therapist who flat-out suggested that her patient was trans just because she found motherhood unappealing, which I think is a totally different issue from the social contagion stuff. Whether a patient is male or female, therapists should never be so irresponsible as to make tantalizingly destructive suggestions to nut-jobs looking to a """medical professional""" for *the answer* to all their problems. Imo, that's some borderline malpractice shit. I've seen way more examples of FtMs (including, yes, some whiney, why-me detransitioners) vs. MtFs talking about how therapy was the gateway to trooning out, but sure, that's anecdotal, who knows.
