So we start emailing each other and one day we got into an argument because she got the definitions for bipolar and schizophrenia mixed up and refused to budge on it to the point that she claimed that it was just different in her country. The worst I've personally interacted with is /u/bardfinn, a reddit power user and troon. It was in r/TheoryofReddit and he was arguing that if someone subscribed to any number of subs, I think the one in question was KiA, then they were Nazis by default. I disagreed, he reee'd.

I was a simple, smoothbrained normie redditor, having never encountered that degree of retardation before. As the radfems would say, he peak-trooned me to here.

I knew a lady who was a creepy midget who sewed her own sex dolls and had a fetish for teenage girls banging really old dudes. I made a thread on her but it's very dead. She doubled down on the cuntyness post-election and now you have to dredge through thousands of #FuckDrumpf posts each day to find an occasional sexually charged crayon drawing of Loki and a six year old girl.

Don't get involved with them if you're somewhat sane-- they have nothing to do except incessantly hunt you down, create sockpuppets in order to harasss you, and smear your name. It's even worse because they can mimic being normal or only 'slightly' troubled to take advantage of people who are empathetic.

I befriended a man online when I was a young teenager. We talked for a while, every day for hours. He claimed he was 18, and after a while he'd immediately start IMing me as soon as I'd go online, as soon as he saw me show up. The guy eventually tried to coax me into sending him photos and kept trying to convince me to meet up with him because he lived in the same county as me. Looking back on it, the man had to have been at least in his 30's or 40's, because the photo he sent me at the time looked like an older photo, not from my time.

I'm convinced the guy was a creepy online predator, and I'm glad I never went out to meet him.

Yes, it's creepy when I think about it. I remember certain details about it, and I recognize a few signs that the guy wasn't 18, but me being a naive teenager I didn't think on it. When I think of the chats I used to do, and my friends- it was actually pretty common for adults to try to convince us to meet them. Very creepy.

A long time ago I was a member of a small gaming forum and one of the users had the name "KittenKilla" and was the most stereotypical internet tough guy asshole you could imagine, with the kicker being he was Canadian.

Gamergate attracted a lot of neurotic characters.
Its one thing to base your whole web persona about something as banal as higher standards in videogames journalism, but framing your identity around opposing those people? Peak autism. 'I'm not pathetic you're pathetic!' cope-posting all with this sort of unearned smugness ruined an entire website for me. The anti-types would shit up completely unrelated conversations because they identified posters they disagreed with from elsewhere and would pick fights with them.
Nothing even substantive, btw, just endless semantics and gaslighting. Mods refused to do anything too because some of the characters had been there for years, had sway with the jannies, and genuinely made the case the forums would be dead without them.

Probably part the reason I've settled here after a half-decade in the wilderness is the topics are so meta it embues everybody involved with some level of self-awareness, which is something you don't want to foster on 2000s-era gaming forums for fear it leads to users doing something more productive with their lives
