Labor isn't an important factor in determining price, it's based on supply and demand. How the fuck can't they get that through their heads. Working hard on it is worthless if the service or product has a nonexistent demand. Taking basic economics basically makes any Marxist theory sound like nonsense.

They care not about the economy. Nyk, Oli, noncompete, etc... want to believe that the only reason they are not part of the elite is because prestige is in the service of capital. If things were measured in labor, they believe, then they would be on top since they went through the oh so hard task of study philosophy, or read the fucking bread book.

Ancoms remind me a little bit of ancaps. The two groups couldn't be more different, and yet they have something in common: they despise mainstream economics, since it unambiguously refutes their delusional ideas about how society works.

Ironically and, if rational wiki is correct, (yeah, I know it's a shithole) noncompete was an entrepreneur (and a libertarian) back in the day. By the way he talks, and the arguments he employs, I can tell from a mile away that he was the kind of "entrepreneur" that adds no value; a snake oil salesman so to speak.

I don't remember clearly in which video he did this, but Oli cited a "marxist economist" who predicted with "great detail" the 2008 crisis but "nobody listened". Turns out Austrian economists (the school not the nationality) and libertarians in general also "predicted the crisis". The truth is that a lot of people knew beforehand, but you don't get the great machine of economy to reform itself whenever you are scared. Hell, you can even say that a lot of people knew of the current crisis even before covid was a thing.

Wanna see something beyond cursed?:

As awful as the Skeptic community is/was, at least they never unleashed something like this monstrosity upon us.

Please don't tell me there's a Skeptics version out there...

Quinton's probably creaming his jeans he was actually included in something BreadTube-related.

Even the Skeptics were more diverse than this. Funny how they complain about Anti-SJWs as having the "one black friend"....

I'm noticing an awful lack of diversity among these people:thinking:

This vid from cameron is golden, he's crying like a child who didn't get what he wanted. Here's what he says "I don't what i'm talking about really, I just, I feel like, I can't , I feel like i'm not allowed, why aren't we allowed to talk about how capitalism is just destroying the world. It's like we're not allowed to talk about it, and the fact is we do have voices and we can say what we want, that is true we can just say what we want. That's freedom we're allowed to say what we want and if we live in a capitalist society we don't actually have to, we don't have to. I just wanted to say that if we want to have communism, we can have communism."

I have a question, and excuse me if it doesn't belong here. I'd like to know if pic related counts as part of breadtube. I know that he is not part of the official lineup, but I've seen his now old comments on hontrapoints and SarahZ's videos.

This guy has sparked my curiosity, because sometimes he seems to be desperate to be part of "the cool kids" of breadtube while also calling himself centre-left. He is kind of in the middle, a hybrid if you will: half skeptic and half breadtuber. However, sometimes I am under the impression that he is hiding his power level until all this bredtube madness ends, and that his true self is much more conservative/libertarian.

What do you think, guys? Do you believe he belongs on this thread or not?

Bad Empenada did two videos criticizing him because he did not go into enough detail on how evil and destructive Chritopher Columbus was.

On the subject of our boy here, it's apparently been a very busy week for our him as he gets involved with the current ongoing drama between the YouTube commentary community and the the Twitch streaming community.

For those of you (blessedly) out of the loop. Resurrected commentary Youtuber, LeafyisHere, took aim at vapid hypocrite/Karen, Pokimane. This then spawned a backlash of several streamers taking specific issue with the fair use nature of their streams watching YouTube videos with minimal to no commentary or transformitive value. Among these people are Hasan "America Deserved 9/11" Piker and Steven "Destiny" Bonnell II, two prominent and known lefty twitch streamers who Alex most likely still watches.

So first off, he took a swipe at commentary YouTuber Bowblax

https://twitter.com/Bowblax/status/1290825647279845376

So after this failed swipe at Bowblax and his reaction to it, an incensed Alex latched onto Zach James and his brilliant take that Bowblax is engaging in copyright infringement for reading tweets off of twitter and giving commentary on them. This itself drew commentator Nicolas DeOrio, also hinting at Alex possibly being the subject of a upcoming video.

I guess we will see how the week will end as he hops onto Bowblax's cohost Augie's show tomorrow.

is ollie on hormones?
Listen to him in the after video from last month. He sounds incredibly feminine. He's always performing a voice, but when he's more relaxed, he still sounds like in his main videos in the dissection streams. Except for the Darwin video. And maybe his logic dissection, but I've not seen that yet. Only just noticed he'd done Logic.

Also, why is him as Caesar making him look like a over-aged, discount, scene kid?

I hate how he thinks making Youtube content is somehow a meaningful pedagogical activity. I know he didn’t get a terminal degree in the discipline but did he ever do any sort of TA work in his program? Rhetorical question, I don’t think Ollie did any of his assigned readings and his work was so shitty that he was basically told he wouldn’t advance at all and thus has no future in going down that avenue. The man got a degree while managing to not get an education at all, which is no easy feat.

This is apparent everytime he gives a hot analysis in video format on some topic or figure in the philosophical canon; always a rote and cliched reading from secondary sources. What this means is that his “teaching philosophy” is really nothing more than giving his audience a tertiary treatment. Bad ones at that, he prospers off doing a disservice to people and is substantially no different from the grifters who try to sell “speed reading” programs to an unsuspecting public.

This rendition of his metaphilosophy being nothing more than the activity of “taking apart an argument and figure out what it's saying” is such a deflated and unenchanting conception of philosophy I’m surprised he even has other creative interests. It is like someone getting a degree in photojournalism and then refusing to develop their portfolio because he took the pictures and already knows what they look like, so why bother?

I don’t even know why he titled this video “Logic” because it has little to do with that field at all. Everything he tried to demonstrate can pretty much be found in Aristotle’s ‘De Sophisticis Elenchis’ (On Sophistical Refutations) which is really fucking ironic since his choice was to “take apart” an argument preserved in Sallust. The fact he isn’t aware that this is an activity in rhetoric in the Hellenistic sense and not logic while dealing with a Hellenistic text is usually an amateur mistake made by someone like Destiny, but Destiny has an excuse because his literacy extends only to the quest text of Japanse RPGs and Wikipedia. Ollie has fucking graduate degree.

Here is a protip Ollie: If you are going to recite a line of Latin to showcase that elite English erudition then you shouldn’t preface it with pronouncing Cicero as “SIS-A-ROW”, it would be “KICK-A-ROW” you absolute fucking fraud. Elocution of classical languages is performance, as a troon-in-embryo I would think you could appreciate that..

What really hurt my soul was how Ollie needed to refer to Star Wars to explain the historical context of the speech. Watching PhilosophyTube is like a mental exercise of touring ecological disasters in developing countries, just long stretches of spiritual poverty checkered with monuments to the worst examples of Western pop culture.

Yet what fruits of labor do I expect from a man who subsists off Breadtube alone?

I don't believe Olli's fans are in it for the modus ponens, modus tollendo tollens or hypothetical syllogism.

I want to be fair and say that some youtube denizens that look up to him are sincerely interested in learning the rudiments of some philosophical ideas. Most, however, and I am sure of this, just want rhetorical weapons with which they can express their retarded opinions and sound smart nonetheless.

It's a shame. A series on logic would've been really interesting.

He's already come out as bisexual, so he's done some of the steps to trooning out if he does end up doing so

My honest question, is why are guys trooning out and at what cost? Just to support trans rights? That's just fucking bullshit man, they shouldn't have to troon out at all, imo. Breadtube is probably a cult for all I know.

Pewdiepie actually did it longer and persisted into his career. One of the reasons it worked for him is because he didn't solely rely on YouTube, had to rebrand several times, branch out his style and basically stay relevant. No other youtuber has managed to perfectly emulate his style.
