Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I'm kind of amazed they haven't gone full authoritarian with the internet and demanded ISPs to block sites that conflict with official narratives. Maybe they're happy with what Facebook, Twitter, and other normie sites have done. They've totally restructured society to "fight" this "threat" and shove propaganda in our face at every possible angle, it's curious how they even allow the internet.

I shouldn't speak too soon since at this rate it's only a matter of time before not wearing a mask in your own car will just as ticketable as driving 100 MPH at night with no headlights and the police will do random checks on your home to see if you're wearing a mask. Wonder what will come first since we're all so intent on emulating the Chinese system with its almost zero cases in months (except for some dumb niggo immigrants who nearly caused another outbreak).

Honestly, people have shown themselves so willing to thoughtlessly goosestep, I just have to be realistic. They can spin as doing literally anything but shopping for approved items online and visiting approved news sites as literally killing people, a stupid amount of fuckers will fall for it.

So for my fellow Ohiofags, we now have an easy to navigate online Public Health Advisory System page for DeWine's color coded mess of a system.

You can look through the counties and see how many of the seven metrics they meet. The short hand, Yellow is 1-2 metrics, orange is 3-4, red is 5-6, purple is 7. The last update was 7/30, as it's only updated on Thursdays. Pick any of the red county and see how many metrics they met. And then rage internally as you realize that most counties should be at least one level lower than the map indicates. Hamilton should be yellow, it only met two metrics.

On the positive, DeWine's side piece, Dr. Amy Acton, has resigned from the cushy job he made for her. She was the director of the health department for most of this, hilariously wrong about everything, and still won't disclose the modelling she used that gave her the massively wrong predictions.

Just some of her greatest hits. We still haven't hit 100,000 cases for the states, even with DeWine trying to inflate that as hard as he can. Thing is, Acton is a Doctor, but she hasn't practiced since her residency, just keeps up on her medical license. She's not board certified on anything, and while she's claimed not to be political, one husband and a name change ago, isn't that weird?

If this is the caliber of health director the other states have, God help us all.

She appears to live on the same plane of idiocy as my state superintendent of schools and that is enough for me to lose my lunch.

What's worse is that she has a fan club. She's been wrong about everything, doesn't know virus don't reproduce outside the body, but she's the savior of Ohio according to the Karenwaffen and the Mask Cultists. We're only being mean to her because she's a woman. To be fair, about two dozen people showed up to protest outside her house a couple months back, which set DeWine off.

I do recommend reading some of DeWine's twitter though, the signal to noise ratio is rough, but there's some good Ohio information in there. Lots of bootlickers or also lots of fed up Ohioans. Also, DeWine never mentions R0 any more, but Ohio's been under 1 for a month. He has to keep moving goalposts because we keep kicking the shit out of his metrics.

That will continue until elections force people out. Or people start returning to normal and don't keel over dead revealing the lie.
The latter ain't happening because we flat out haven't been allowed to. We got close to that point just before the riots but ever since then they've made extra sure to not allow any actua reopenings and restriction liftings (and if they have they've slapped mandated mask shit on them to maintain the fear). That way people still think the pandemic is raging on and the little dictators can keep pulling the control strings as they damn well please.

Warning, sickening reddit bs, my apologies for the reddit link.

I hate people like this. All of what they believe is so fake. They're all so fake. They have no consistency and just go along with whatever is popular without actually putting any thought into it themselves. While I believe this whole situation is nuanced, these people make me want to pull my hair out sometimes due to how little they actually care about anything besides what other people spew up nearby them.

"Everyone should have a right to healthcare! Free healthcare for all :feels:"
"Oh, but if you support this business or go there to eat after being locked inside for months on end you deserve to be refused healthcare! Which will cause you to die in my views!"

"I'm class-conscience! I <3 MARX!!"
"Oh, businesses should just shut down! The employees will be fine without a reliable source of income!"

"Oh, I'm an anarchist #FUCKTHEGUBERMINT"
"Noooo, listen to everything the government officials are saying!!! Trust in your government!!!!"

"I care about kids!!! Education is extremely important!!!"
"What do you mean some kids can't optimally learn in an entirely online environment!?!?! They just need to get over it! This is the new normal!"

"I care about people's mental health! End stigma!!!"
"Oh, you're suicidal because you can't make actual contact with other people or access your support systems! Stop being so dramatic-- do you want to kill grandma!? If you're that sad just call the suicide hotline!!!"

Fuck these people man.

I forgot about DeWine defending m'lady's honor. Acton is a "personal health advisor" the same way as Monica Lewinski

Fuck these people man.

100% agree.

I had one of these people not only defriend me on FB, but block me as well for a humble brag post about not getting my quarantine 15 with an attached screenshot of my monthly running totals for July. It also could have been that I follow a lot of right wing pages as well.

On the bright side today on my run in LA not a whole lot of people were wearing masks at the park.

Schools have re-opened in Georgia and people are, as expected, utterly chimping out on Twitter and preparing for the end of times:

Sure would've been great to see all this concern back when those riots occurred with people packed like sardines.

The hypocrisy, willful ignorance, and "It's OK when WE do it!" attitudes has worn thin on me over the past months.

I'm not even sure if the hard reality of a tanking economy would be enough to make them warm up to reopenings.

Now this sham is predicting we'll be socially distancing and wearing masks for the next 2-3 years.

I'm sorry, as horrifying and insane as things have been so far, I just don't buy it. No matter what lunacy goes on in the next year or so, people are not going to fall for this shit long-term. So much can happen in a year, and it seems that so far all these end-of-the-world, worst-case-scenario predictions are baseless and meant to terrify you into submission (and get that sweet clickbait $$). Based on what I see day-to-day in my own state, regardless of "the rules," the normies are pretty much over this and ready to go back to work and life....except for the Mask Cultists and the Eternally Paranoid, of course.

It's unhealthy to quarantine healthy people long-term. Give me the feels but I'm also tired of these websites cherry-picking scare quotes from random "experts" and making them go viral on Twitter for the ad revenue shekels.

In other news:

Same day, same constant panic. The media will never tire of this shitshow, but maybe eventually the general public will.

Hasn't big pharma been exempt from vaccine injury liability since Reagan?

At least she went to medical school. Minnesota’s health commissioner is Jan Malcolm, who has a philosophy and psychology degree from Dartmouth and no graduate level education. None.

For this, she is touted as “Minnesota’s Dr. Fauci”.

....
Also, just thought about this @knobslobbin - why is Alaska so worried about this? There's very little travel, I'd imagine, and y'all's population is comparatively small, so I feel like a little bit of 'wear a mask and stand six feet apart, no festivals for a few months' would do y'all just fine?

The short answer: We have a democrat (((mayor))). Our republican governor is also making dumb overreactions but not as draconian. In the rest of state people are for the most part slowly getting back to normal.

We have had 1 death last month in the entire state from covid, and iirc he was in his 80s. People are over this, well except in the city you can tell when someone is very liberal. They are clutching their mask, watching their distance, and shaking if you look at them wrong. They really hate me not wearing a mask, but don't have the balls to say anything (medical exemption loop hole regardless, but the only 2 people who have asked me were grocery store workers stationed at the entrance, and they didn't give a fuck once I said the magic words)

There is an active recall out for one of the city counselors who voted for this. And another trying to form. These dipshits voted to extend our little hitler's emergency powers, again.

The city is fining the restaurant $300 every day he stays open. I really hope Mayor Berkowitz tries to shut them down even harder. Our community needs something to galvanize against! It's too easy for people to just drive up to towns outside of his influence to escape the crazy. I really feel for all the people losing their lively hoods so that safety theater can make a few corrupt politicians appear to have done something.

The best part? Acton resigned from the health department position, DeWine created a health advisor position for her, gave her a $50,000 a year raise, and she still resigns a couple months later. Our current health department director is a lawyer.

Thing is, in Ohio the health emergency powers rest with the health department head, not the governor, so DeWine has to have a loyal toady. It did mean that Acton was the one on the lawsuits that were hitting the state. Oddly enough, last year DeWine tried to get the statehouse to move the emergency powers to the governorship and I think give it unlimited control of the budget. The statehouse rightly told him to fuck off, but the timing feels odd. DeWine has some connections with organizations attatched to Bill Gates too and hired the Clinton related Partners in Health for contact tracing. He even has a school in Haiti. That the Clinton's praised.

DeWine puts the "In Name Only" in RINO.

I don't buy in to all the conspiracy theory crap about Covid, but I do genuinely believe that the government isn't going to give up the power to tell niggas to stay inside whenever they please. I'd found it odd that the protests in my former residence were basically shut down under the guise of 'covid safety' when we were protesting about a cop walking into the wrong apartment and shooting the resident, and then the police are suddenly VERY interested in enforcing COVID guidelines.

The simple fact is, re-opening and taking safety precautions aren't mutually exclusive. We can't afford an economic crash in the current global market. If we can soften the blow by opening up businesses while enforcing social distancing guidelines, I'm all for it. I'm also pro-wearing a mask, but if you have a medical exemption? Fuck, that's you man. Hell, even if you didn't, I'll just give you six feet anyway and get on with my day. We can't let what is basically just a more mutagenic SARS strain completely murder our economy at such a critical stage.

And this is the person they consider a "scientist" while they mock your peer-reviewed papers showing COVID is not that bad

Here's the thing, I'm an American. Tell me we need to pull together as a community to beat this thing and strongly encourage masks, social distancing, whatever. Get local leaders to make PSAs and give talks, but treat us like adults and leave shit open. Let us make our own risk decisions. Then I'd be the first one volunteering to wear a pointless mask just to show solidarity.

But tell us what to do! threaten us if we don't comply! Guess how Americans react to being treated like naughty children too dumb to make their own decisions?

That was what my town, Carrollton, TX, tried to do. The thing about the city of Carrollton is that it's on the Dallas County line with Denton AND Colton County, but for some stupid reason, Dallas County, rather than Denton county, where most of the city is, has jurisdiction over it (read: it's because it's the bigger city, and also Blue Dallas wants to be able to bully Red Carrollton.) We stayed mostly open through the start of the outbreak, and had very few cases of actual Carrollton residents getting Wuflu. It was mostly people from Denton and Dallas who were stopping in the area, like dumbasses, to go to the local spa-resort, which stayed open for reasons I personally can't fathom considering it's a fucking grift shop. Dallas County Chief Justice proceeded to unilaterally threaten legal action against the small, family-owned Korean businesses in Carrollton until they closed.

What did the Koreans do, you asked?

They just said 'wear a mask' and stayed open. Clayton ain't done shit.

Just to clarify- by geographical location, these businesses are in Denton. Dallas should not have any legal jurisdiction over them, but he does, and the only reason he hasn't sprung is because the better business bureau is lobbying him
