Autistic people don't automatically know how to help other autistic people. For example, I have a hard enough time dealing with normal people. If you dump me with someone else on the spectrum, I probably couldn't see areas that they'd need help in because I don't know what the "normal" baseline is, and on a bad day for either of us we'd sit staring at the floor for however long a therapy session would go.

Putting a bunch of autistic people in a room is like having a bunch of toy cars with pre-programmed paths all running in the same room. They'll all go the way they want to go, regardless if they crash into other cars along the way, bumping into each other and the walls with their tiny wheels whirring uselessly as they inevitably get stuck.

I say this from experience. :asperchu:

you know what i love about situations like this? morons will start screaming about WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF IT WAS A SEXY GUY WITH MANIPULABLE CROTCH!?!?!?

YES
yes, i would love that. i love it when people ask if i would okay with a sexy guy instead of a sexy girl. because i then can say I WOULD LOVE THAT. and they have no fucking clue how to respond.
WELL, ZehnBoat, your dream just might become a reality, you lucky dog.

It can be just as frustrating for an autistic person to handle other autistic people who are lower on the spectrum than they are. (Believe me, I should know.)

i dunno, i think people with mental disorders or illnesses can strive in the field - but they only strive in the field after learning to heal and cope with their disorders (which tumblr seems so adamantly against, going by this whole "the world needs to adapt to MY NEEDS because there's nothing actually wrong with me and my personality disorder just makes me different! I DONT NEED TO HEAL I LOVE MY PSYCHO ASS FUK THE SYSTEM. ITS ABUSE TO CHANGE ME INTO SOMETHING IM NOT, THIS IS JUST LIKE HOW THE WHITE DEVILS RAPED THE NATIVES AND ASSIMILATED THEM INTO AMERICAN CULTURE!" mentality, rather than recognizing the difference between a physical disability/movement impaired person and somebody w a disordered personality who has self destructive or abusive symptoms and behaviors as a result).

i think medical and psych professionals with experience learning to deal, cope and heal w their disorders bring something really unique and impotrant to their work, because they've been through it and know how it is, they know how to heal and are proof to their patients that it CAN be done. but again. they need to go through the whole unpleasant "healing" aspect first and learn how to manage their disorder.

i vaguely remember hearing this on tumblr so idk if its true - but i heard something about a psych professional with BPD who made a lot of headway in research studies and behavior therapies for her personality disorder? not sure if its true, but yeah.

Okay this one is technically cheating since its a tumblr sidebar, not a tumblr post, but it's too fucking stupid to not share.

Linking the image instead of embedding because it is huge.

I also remember this person having an indiegogo campaign to help afford top surgery, but all of the perk options were really rude shit like "You get to misgender me and I won't yell at you" and "I will be your token trans friend for when those arguments come up". However it looks like the perks are hidden now? But Yeah, assume everyone that is going to donate is a gigantic asshole, that'll really get them to help you out.

Therapy against your will? You don't want to integrate into society? Oh, right, Tumblr. And besides, being autistic isn't like being Felix catus. We're still people, and I'd estimate those high-functioning enough to have a Tumblr and talk with their families like that do share most of their habits with the non-autistic. (I'm hoping that the actuallyautistic tag means something; 50/50 chance.)

It's pretty depressing that actually autistic people had to create their own tag, and now it's getting shit up pretty badly.

They'll have to start appending more words to it to get away from self DXers. "seriouslyactuallyautistic", "certainlyseriouslyactuallyautistic", "forrealrealnotforplayplaycertainlyseriouslyactuallyautistic".

I feel bad for any public figure really, you'll never make people like that happy. This, combined with the sensitive trigger that comes with groups based around equality is a recipe for disaster. It's very easy to say "PBG is a sexist!" and garner supporters who are scared to question that and risk looking sexist in the eyes of others, then when they realise they were wrong, keep going because they might need to admit they fucked up.

The guy walked on eggshells here and presented his perception of feminism and gaming really clearly and made sure not to step on anyone's toes. And it wasn't enough. I don't like PBG's videos but I love how he handles things like this, it's refreshing to see on the internet.

Thin privilege is being able to get out your front door and walk to the mailbox without hyperventilating from strain, I'm healthy at any weight though

Thin privilege is when I don't need to reinforce my bed with iron rebar and hardwoods. Still as healthy as Usain Bolt though *Chows down on lard burger*
