TJ Ducklo, the Biden campaign's national press secretary, later tweeted that the exchange was "clearly a joke."

"When Vice President Biden has made a decision on who his running mate will be, he will let the American people know," he said.

When asked earlier by Fox News in Delaware whether or not he had picked a VP, Biden said: "Yeh I have."

When Fox News asked who, Biden quipped "you" in response. It was initially unclear how serious Biden's initial response, made during a bike ride in a state park, was.

Speculation is rampant about who Biden may pick as his running mate, and an announcement is expected any day.

Biden confidants who spoke to Axios say the final two candidates are Sen. Kamala Harris of California and Susan Rice, who served as national security adviser and ambassador to the United Nations under President Obama's administration.

Last week, Biden told reporters that he would choose his party's vice presidential nominee by "the first week in August." But a source familiar with the process told Fox News on Monday that "an announcement isn't likely this week."

I think all these desperation moves are because it truly has been shocking how fast Joe's gone to pieces since Iowa.... whatever plan they had depended on him not getting measurably worse, and if anything, it's sped up by a factor of 3.... leaving them scrambling to come up with a "Plan B" on the fly and thus are tossing out darts left and right.... making Joe a virtual candidate, trying to sidestep debates, trying to keep the riots going and the lockdowns to make it "too dangerous" to campaign.... etc etc etc.

It's not part of some grand scheme, it's because they knew Biden had problems, but they didn't know they'd be so bad and advance so quick that by July he'd be not just unable to read a teleprompter but unsure of WHERE he is, literally .

I don't think they knew Biden would be the clear establishment winner. I genuinely think they wanted Pete Buttgoy or Corey Booker to come out on top and that this was a mistake. Biden was supposed to be a referendum on old white men to prove during the Primary that their new rhetoric was the future and it failed.
