Nickelodeon giving Patrick his own show to milk Spongebob even further is something that I used to joke about with friends, I can't believe how slimy it is that they're actually doing this after already announcing Camp Coral.

This is somewhat reminiscent of the Rocko's Modern Life featurette that came out last year. Joe Murray spent forty minutes insulting the fans because they wouldn't shut up about bringing it back.

When you think about it Disney did the same thing with Star Wars; instead of making something new with limitless potential they decided to rely on nostalgia and resurrect a dead corpse.

That first one is exactly why static cling never appealed to me. At least the hey Arnold jungle movie and to a lesser extent invader Zim enter the florpus felt like coming back to series that had never gotten proper closure. Static cling felt like Murray was sick of people asking him to be their own personal genie and bring things back the way they used to be.

Getting back on topic, it really does feel like the network was just waiting for Steven to croak just so they can do all the shameless things they wanted to do with their cashcow Sponge. The episodes selling out and the krusty sponge have pretty much become a pale reflection of the show itself in hindsight

And he's not wrong for either thinking that or wanting to do that. After the first movie, the show got stagnant and just tried to be "Ren & Stimpy" but failed at it.

It's another fucking prequel, this time about Patrick living with his family and hosting his own TV show from his bedroom.

The new characters include Cecil Star, Patrick’s fun-loving, happy-go-lucky dad who always puts his family first; Bunny Star, Patrick’s loving, sea star mom who is a kooky oddball; Squidina Star, Patrick’s eight-year-old sister who sees herself as Patrick’s executive producer for his imaginary TV show; and GrandPat Star, Patrick’s genius grandpat, the most intelligent member of the Star family.

“Nickelodeon is diving deeper into Bikini Bottom to give fans a look at our lovable young adult Patrick Star and his entire family with a sitcom only he could imagine up,” Ramsey Naito, President of Nickelodeon Animation, said in a statement. “This second original spinoff allows us to expand our reach, tell new stories and connect with our audience around the world who continue to love these characters.”

They retconned his parents, Herb and Margie, from "I'm with Stupid."

It's allegedly because they were boring as characters and not fun or entertaining compared to Cecil and Bunny.
