Well you guys covered most of it but my god, does this speak volumes about Jess.
Since she used "hero" instead of "protagonist" I assume she means the good guy rather than just the main character. Well, I mean, why would the good guy BE the good guy if he was bitter and full of envy (justified or otherwise) or why would the "normie" be the bad guy and do bad things? Yes a good writer can do this, but most of them don't because watching someone do nice things and then whine and be a dick in every other interaction is really off putting, and I think that's what gets me the most about this little ramble of hers; she doesn't seem to get that people don't LIKE characters/people who are bitter, mean and have no redeemable traits.
But that's what she relates to and I don't know if it's a bit of narcissism or what but she just can't seem to wrap her head around how annoying and unlikable people like that are.
And please, before you reply, yes there are examples of likable protagonists that go against what I said, there are exceptions to every rule and I don't need my inbox filled with every example you can think of that counters this.
The point is that Jess seems to think people should like, even embrace, people/characters with these horrible qualities who offer no love, affection or redeemable actions in return and that's autistic as fuck. I always just thought she was a bad writer, but it turns out she's actually just kind of a bad person too.
