I had it too, america was never great yadda yadda ya. What pulled me out was actually this site. Somehow I stumbled onto some thread or another and saw a few videos of the horrific treatment of animals done by Chinese, and knew that this would never be okay in America. It made me realize that there are bad things that other countries do that America purposefully doesn't, which makes America the best country. And while there are some things that America might stumble with, our system is so great because it allows us to recognize and then fix those mistakes.

And that's why I think a lot of the problems come from too. In school you're taught about the bad and good things America did (with emphasis on bad sometimes), but never talked about the bad stuff other countries do. So you think that only America is bad. And if you try to talk about the bad things other countries do, you're called a racist.

People take many things for granted in the US but imagine a place where you have to make sure that water can be piped into your home and if so, you need to make sure the ability to produce hot water is possible. You can buy drinking water but being able to shower, wash your clothes and clean all require hot water. Now imagine in addition that supermarkets, convenience stores, paved roads and a reliable electrical grid were gone. Then they'd know what living in the dystopian world is like.

Vaccines are great - IF they’re tested properly. IF.
Properly means years upon years of work. In vitro, animals, then humans. Shitloads of safety surveillance. If that gets subverted in any way, or those steps are missed, it’s bad news. There have been several cases with civilians (the swine flu one for example) and some terrible ones with the military.
The current crop of anti vaccine types has meant the debate has shifted so the opposing position is to rubbish them and say all vaccines are fine. I think that’s created it’s own problems tbh. The reality is that a vaccine is like any other drug Or intervention. Done well, they can save millions of lives and avert suffering. Done badly, they can do damage.
It’s like people who shun all modern medicine. The correct response is not to ridicule them, it’s to point out where they’re wrong and where they’re right, in a nuanced way and accept that there’s a risk/benefit calculation in any drug.
