Yeah I should've been clearer, I meant more that he would have to formulate a response to whatever Maddox says in a way that doesn't look like a defense of the situation. The expectation that Dick should always be able to hit back against Maddox means that if he doesn't or if he's evasive about it then it would look like he's on the back foot. All Maddox would have to do is needle him on it long enough for Dick or someone around him to slip up.
