To get anything like a trip out of diphenhydramine you have to take nearly toxic doses. This is the kind of "legal high" only dumb high schoolers (and true degenerates) do on purpose because it is so utterly unpleasant. All of the 'classic' psychadelics, LSD, mescaline, mushrooms/psilocybin, etc. have long durations that range from 4 to 12 hours of full effect, and within that time there is ALWAYS a point, usually about halfway through the trip, where you are going to face your inner demons wether you are prepared for that or not.

The more of a fuckup you are and have been, the worse this period will be for you and if you fail to think yourself though this intense self-analysis and come out of the other end with some insight and back to an enjoyable high, your negative emotions and flaws can overwhelm you instead of going away, and this is usually where and how a trip turns into a bummer.

For Phil and all the terrible decisions he has made in his life, he has no chance to successfully answer when faced with himself and something like this will be the result. Nigger will end up in the hospital being shot full of thorazine.

Yep. I think I picked it up in Portland, actually. The initial illness wasn't so bad, but the long-term effects are awful. Still fatigued, still brain foggy, still having intermittent loss of taste (wtf?), shortness of breath, headaches, etc. AVOID IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
