The people who today decry the state of the mental healthcare system, tend to be the very same kind of people who decried the psychiatric system in the 70ies and 80ies.

Well congrats faggots, you got what you wanted!

The state facilities and asylums all got closed down, and the patients released into communities so they can receive “community care”.

And what’s the result? A lot of schizos roaming about and cries of: “Oh noes! This isn’t working! We need more funding and state hospitals!”

Then maybe you shouldn’t have bitched about them when they were there?


Another issue entirely is, that psychiatric care isn’t something that can be solved just by throwing money at it.

There is a constitutional right to say and believe crazy shit. And of course a constitutional right to decline treatment (under most circumstances) and not take your meds.

Unless you want an even scarier alternative to the current system: Where the state can totally take away the rights of anyone deemed mentally ill, lock them up indefinitely and force medication on them.

Informed consent is sheer lunacy, that can only lead to abuse by vulnerable teenagers and lunatics like Tom.

The FDA watches over opiates like a hawk these days, and addiction aside, they’re far less likely to inflict any permanent damage or physiological changes like hormones.

This is EXACTLY what I thought of when I heard Tommie landed in the psych ward. What a happy confluence of events!

It's almost like we reap what we sow; Tommie has run free shitting about the land and when they could've scored their biggest payday of all time by tricking their grieving mother all of their scheming, lying and whoring catches up to them and slaps them back down into the dirt. Cows on here regularly post from their time inside. Colt of the Ratking used to use the local psych ward as a vacation away from his life of sucking up resources from the local lgbt center and posted all kinds of pictures of his macaroni art while he was in. Those weren't involuntary holds, though.

Of all the assiholic things this man has done, I can understand being belligerent when it comes to being locked up against your will for seventy-two hours. He might have said something awful, but, it doesn't take much to keep a person confined in hospital if you really want them to be. His erratic behaviour, added to a threat complaint that may or may not exist, is all that could stand between confinement and freedom. Given his track record, no one would believe him. (I don't believe him, either.) I'm simply saying that the "danger of hurting yourself or others" reason for holding someone is not always the best idea. Just pray for the other patients on his ward.
