Why does Tumblr have an obsession with vitiligo?

  • Suicide Girl model and America's Next Top Model contestant have it, spread on Tumblr, that's why.

About that "generic design" they were complaining about, I'm curious about your feelings on it. Other than that the knives should have covers, I think it looks cool. There's an elegance and a lovely sense of detail to it.
As much as how one could point out how the design can be detrimental, I do feel that since it is a work of fiction, one can only imagine how much the artist and writers can get away with not adhering to all the rules of reality. Really though for the design, aside from elegance, all I can say is that as much as how a flak jacket could help, that would be as useful as wearing a cup to cover the groin before getting hit hard by a hard bucking donkey. I say that since a few bullets could rip through the flak jacket if one did recommend the character would use one (I could be wrong though). If there was anything else to say about the design, I can't say much since I never read or watched Black Lagoon.

Never seen Black Lagoon but I get the feeling it was trying to emulate martial arts films where characters are flashy and cool while logic can go fuck itself.

I remember a long ass time ago seeing fanart of Scarlet Witch on my dash. I think the artist's intent was to make her appear more ethnically Romani, seeing how she is technically Romani in the comics. Alright, cool whatever. Thing is, she practically looked like a racist caricature. She had a very large hook nose and generally looked more like how classic cartoons would depicts the Romani than somebody who is actually ethnically Romani. She was also very short and fat. Look, I'm all for different interpretations of characters, whether it be race bending or experimenting with different body types, but good lord does Tumblr overdoes it at times.

This is a repeat of the whole thing with Sami from Frozen. A lot of SJW seem have an explicitly biological concept of what it means to be non-white. This is, ironically, at odds with a lot of non-white cultures of what it means to be Sami, or Roma, or whatever, which usually has more to do with kinship than blood purity. Claiming that a Roma with darker skin is "more Roma" than a Roma with light skin is, ironically, imposing an explicitly European modernist paradigm of identity on a group who have repeatedly rejected it.

(Also, I believe at least in the comics Scarlet Witch was adopted by Roma - her biological parents were German Jews. From a Roma perspective, that's irrelevant, but it does mean it's totally fitting that she's pale skinned)

Hoo boy, Tumblr art. I'm glad I finally saw a thread to talk about this on, because it marks the perfect time for me to break out of my lurking phase! And yeah, as a designer by trade who incorporates illustration into her work, I loathe it.

Apparently, the red nose comes from a teacher at Ringling. His name is Don Brandes, and a lot of these artists seem to have had him as a teacher, if the comments on this post indicate anything (the answerer of that ask is animator lemonteaflower, responsible for the Ms. Officer and Mr. Truffles fiasco - jfc, the expression they drew on the "don't even talk to me" picture makes me want to punch someone).

What I don't understand is how they use Brandes' art and Renaissance/Baroque art in general to justify the red nose when none of those examples are anywhere near as egregious as what the tumblrites are drawing. Animation is not Renaissance art, and the same techniques aren't going to be applicable to it. It just sounds like an attempt to sound smart when they've just been following the lead of other greenhorns who are trying to feel things out.

I had the crazy idea of posing as one of those SJW re-design artists (under a fake name) just to see if anyone is dumb enough to fall for it. Basically, my alter-ego would get more and more extreme and eventually go after their darlings like Sailor Moon, Ms. Marvel and Amethyst (Steven Universe). I'd start off with Shantae, giving her smaller breasts, a baize-colored outfit (with slightly baggy pants and top), a hijab, replace the hair as a weapon with a sword (because that's not generic) and really bushy eyebrows. Or maybe be Frankie from One Piece, but turning him into a scrawny nerd.

I honestly still think it's Penny Arcade. One teacher seems like too little to trace it to. On second thought, now that I see how deep his influence is...

I don't read Penny Arcade, but I looked online and it seems like it's something they began doing relatively recently; the flush wasn't there in earlier comics. There's another comic called "The Trenches" on that site, and that, on the other hand...

Rembrandt had a history of painting vibrant faces with a prominent, often reddish nose, but Rembrandt also plays with light and shadow in a way that most animators don't need to nowadays, (many of his backgrounds are darker), and the flush he gives to the face is natural and blends nicely. There's even a book called "Rembrandt's Nose," apparently. I think the connection that Tumblrites are drawing with Rembrandt is that the nose is large, bulbous, and shiny - it's prominent, yes, but not Tumblr red (see his 1658 self-portrait, which I'd post if I weren't on mobile.)

I didn't go to Ringling or the Art Center or Pratt or any highly renowned art school... I stayed local to my hometown of Scenic Nowhere. Did I miss something? It's just... when I begin to type in "nose flush drawing" into google and get a suggestion for "nose flush dr. oz," it's not really a good sign.

I wouldn't know. Rembrandt doesn't seem to be where it stops, it seems to be something that continued on for a very long time in some areas. The problem mainly comes with that it is meant to be used with a really realistic style and it just doesn't fit with yet another noodly armed Ward-inspired creation.

Personally, I've always liked less rigid art styles from the nineteenth century and beyond.

Sometimes I wonder if it's a bit of a send-up to bulbous-nosed cartoon characters.

btw, the last one is a "chubby black transgender magical girl"

Scarlet Witch dad is Magneto. Jewish descend.

I thought she was at least half Romani on her mom's side.
As it shows, I really don't know much about Romani culture because I'm American (despite the fact that I apparently have Romani blood in me). I also don't know much about Marvel either.

How is the magical girl with the prosthetic leg able to support herself with those massive breasts? With all that weight being distributed in such a manner, it's got to be pretty hard to get around.

Regarding Serena, if you're going to put that dreadful flush anywhere, you don't put it over the entire apex of the nose! There's no clear light source on the picture but you can see that the artist was trying to establish a little bit of shadow under the chin, so shading the part of the nose that's going to get the most light when you look at it straight on really doesn't help at all.

that last one isnt even chubby. at all. in fact had she not been holding weapons, i'd probably be able to throw her into orbit. i remember seeing that art come by my dash and i dont remember any comments saying it was supposed to be a chubby magical transgender.

also i kinda like that pearl picture, though it seems that being a rock has given her the ability to absolutely obliterate her spine in a few places. "bird mom" indeed

chubby bunny serena be freakin me the hell out. make it go away.

and i mirror the last user's comment about the breasts that could likely suffocate a man. the design would be cute if those things werent absolutely massive! and who in the nine hells is the other... person in the picture?

Also, her stomach seems to bearing a similar load too. It just feels like she'd fall over any minute and have that thing jammed up the thigh in a painful way.

Yes, I made a terrible fat "joke".
