I mean, a piece of media focusing on the sexualization of children isn't inherently a bad idea. The problem is that it's a live action movie featuring real life child actors, thus sexualizing real children and being completely counter intuative. Unironically should have followed in the steps of Big Mouth and been animated, at least real children wouldn't have gotten involved.

None of us have any idea how the production went, especially the casting aspect. The parents of the child actors and the French version of child protective services would've been there to oversee the filming, and neither one of them protested against it. It was showed on Sundance and no one complained against it, even though Sundance is probably the most woke film festival aside from SXSW. I personally think we have way too little information on the behind the scenes or what's shown on screen to make any proper judgement. The only thing I'm confident about is Netflix really fucked up by displaying the poster.

As others have said, she could have been an 18-year-old casting aside the Religion of Peace with the power of dance. At 18 an Islamic woman isn't any less oppressed than 11. It could have been Footloose with brown people, but for some reason they had to be tweens in a movie called Cuties.

Hey they made a movie about that already. It is called "Nazis at the center of the earth" and..has A Clone Hitler head (using an Aborted baby..no really) in a Futurama style jar..on a robot body..with a UFO.

If I recall there are some pedophile psychologists already trying to push forward the argument it's an orientation. When all the evidence we have is that it's a mental illness. The problem we have though, is the LGBQT lobby was able to shout down the Scientists who work the DSM, move trans out of sexual disorders.

I'm glad I don't have kids, because I don't want to find out the elementary teacher telling a bunch of kids it's okay to have a sexual relationship with an adult. And with kids being so savvy with smart phones and concerned about getting likes.... It's fucking horrifying. :cryblood:

I mean you're not wrong, but I'm not particularly optimistic about it. The fact the changed description focuses instead on 'conservative family' and 'free spirited dance group' instead of changing it to be more about the horrors of child exploitation doesn't instill any confidence.

I'm going to compare this to a film I ended up seeing a few years ago, it was called Madolascenza and it starred Eva Ionesco, who was fairly infamous at the time because her mother had been taking eroticised photos of her since she was five. Irina, the mother, was supposedly on the set as they were filming but it's really shocking how incredibly explicit it is, and how anyone involved thought it was even remotely okay. Eva and the other young actress were 12 at the time but the other actress mostly just got topless (that was bad enough) and Eva was completely exposed. Eva later spoke out about how her mother agreeing to this kind of thing on her behalf fucked her up, and that's probably what we'll see down the line with these actresses. They probably didn't realise when they signed up for this that it would be as provocative as it clearly is, and that's the fault of the adults around them no matter what kind of taboos they think they're breaking down.

I think Bijou Phillips had a freakout at a screening of Bully because she didn't know Larry Clark had gone in so close with the camera during her nude scenes and people were like "hasn't she seen any of his films? That's what he does!"

Lotta people be missing the point of why this movie shouldn't have been made. It's not that the film gets put in some perv's spank bank full of extremely islamic content. It's that film production crews should not be allowed to pose and direct eleven year old child actors to generate sexualized content. The kids are minors and don't have the individual agency to push back on shit, and if they don't play ball there's always a more desperate and narcissistic mother who wants to live out their dreams through their kid.

Think about it a bit more. What kind of people do you get when you filter out everyone who says "fuck no, I ain't filming that" from your film crew? Either spineless cowards who are too chickenshit to speak up when they see something, or active predators who actually enjoy that shit. I'll put up goddamn money that one of the child actresses comes out with allegations of child abuse at some point - if not from this film or having already been abused, from staying in the industry and advertising themselves to the disgusting pervs in it.

There's probably some way to make a movie that covers these sorts of topics, but this ain't it, chief. Fucking make it an anime or something, or digitally alter of-age actresses, or hire adult actresses that look like Piper Perry, or something. Anything but skeeving out on actual 11 year old children and doing casting calls to find oblivious, desperate, and/or sociopathic parents to rent their kids out for it.
