What game do you wish Phil would play? - AKA best future TIHYDP material?

  • Risk of Rain 2: For those who don't know, ROR is a roguelike with time-based difficulty. There are three general difficulty settings, but in all of them enemies will gradually become stronger and spawn more often every few minutes. The point here is that Phil would be actively punished for farting around too much. Even though "Drizzle" mode makes things manageable for newer players, the game can still find ways to troll.
holy shit i know my blood pressure rises playing ror2
but phil would be legendary
i can't imagine even on drizzle that phil would be remotely happy getting 5 paul's before he even got a single damage item

Nobody has mentioned Bloodroots yet? That game in my opinion can get intense, given it is made for those who love to speedrun and grab things on the fly.

Edit: Forgot to mention 1 hit deaths for you and damn near everything excluding bosses, which would piss Dave right off.

Nothing says fuck you and die like Overloading Worms x4 descending upon you.

Phil would lose his shit if he died and then lost everything.

"Wuuuuut? The game didnt save my progress dood!"

Streets of Rage 4 is my pick only because the game is rather difficult if you dont play smart.

I think his reaction to any roguelike (Izuna 1 and 2, Dead Cells, Shiren the Wanderer) would be to die a little inside (if there's anything left that isn't gout and sugar "authentic" sauce) when he loses all his shit upon dying.

That's actually a really good idea, any beat'em up is really since most of them are just like the children's games and racing games that are the bane of Phil's existence - there is no one way to easily cheese them and it's impossible to overlevel and brute force through the game, only thing you've got is your skill.
Which brings me to Urban Reign, it's not really a classic beat'em up, it's a mix of Tekken style air juggling, Yakuza style combat in 3D environments, with a mission based story progression system, where you upgrade the main character slightly after each mission, but unless you do something monumentally stupid like just upgrading Brad's limb endurance, you can't fuck up the upgrade progression to the point where you lock yourself out of the game.
Now here's the kicker, after a certain point in the game, for most of the missions you're going to have to bring an AI partner with you and you unlock more as you go through the game, after you beat the "tutorial" AI partner mission where you're forced to pick the girl, you already get 5 other characters or something like that who you can pick as your AI partners from then on out. Now, despite the fact that only a few missions require you to keep your AI partner alive and the fact that the AI partners are actually really competent unless you leave them to fend off 3 or more guys by themselves, I can see Dave raging at how incompetent the AI partners are. That's if he even gets to the part of the game where you can bring AI partners with you before ragequitting, the 1v1 boss missions in the game are absolutely brutal and there's already 5 of them before you even get to that part of the game.

I'd like to see Phil's fans pressure him to play Among Us. It's basically Town of Salem meets The Thing where you play as either a crew member or impostor in a remote facility. Crew wins by finishing tasks in active phase, and voting out impostors during discussion phase. Impostors win by killing crew and sabotaging systems during active phase, and deflecting suspicion from crew in discussion phase. The game primarily features socializing and PvP mechanics which are both things that draw out good salt from Phil. Even better is that surviving as crew and killing as impostor involve needing to read the room, and adjusting your strategies accordingly so it's not something that chat can just handhold his way through.

I could easily see Phil pussing out staying away from everyone until he's swiftly killed for being a lone target as crew. Meanwhile as impostor he's either too scared to kill anyone without getting caught then losing when crew finishes tasks, or makes a really stupid kill that causes him to quickly get voted off.

ETA: Another nice bonus is that the game prominently displays your ping at all times, which will hilariously highlight any lag excuse lies moreso than usual.

I wonder if he'll play SMT Nocturne when the remaster comes out, I wanna see him get his ass kicked in the tutorial.

Phil needs friends to play Among Us.

I was going to say pathologic just because I know for a fact there’s no way he’d enjoy it. But I’m not even sure you could squeeze a decent tihydp out of what an absolutely joyless experience it would be to watch. Mark of Kri would be entertaining purely to see a nearly 40 year old struggle through a game I beat when I was 6

Russian roulette with a semi auto seems to be looking like a decent pick for a game, considering his finances.

its foolish to think that phil would see pathologic and not immediately pick up a guide, even with pathologic 2 being a bit more straight forward than the original phil would hit a brick wall the second the kid with the dog head speaks

You're right actually. I'm pretty new to DSP in general and admittedly have watched very little of his content. Might be overestimating him a bit

Any shitty game that I don't enjoy.

Its was bad enough watching him play Fire Emblem and many other games and fucking lose his shit and blame the game for his fucking faults.

The way to think of what games DSP is capable of playing and what games are way over his head, think of your very young nephew or niece or if you don't have one just imagine an average 8-10 year-old kid and then think what games they'd be able to play. Or actually thinking about it, imagine an average 8-10 year old kid that's also a little bit slow in the head and then think of a game that they would be able to play, then you've got a rough idea of what games he'd be capable of playing.
Often he does play games that are way over his head, but unlike a slow 8-10 year-old kid, he also had about a hundred whales telling him exactly what to do.

I'd like Phil to take a crack at the NES version of a "Boy and his blob".
That game had a lot of strange puzzles and it wasn't hand holdy with what jellybeans did what. The new one is very little kid oriented and easy.
Plus despite being a Nes game it had Atari 2600 level graphics ,which were very charming and he'd hate.
I'd give him less than 5 minutes before rage quitting.
The adventures of lolo he would quit before the 5th puzzle.
