It's pretty clear looking at how he doesn't appear on any popular podcast list, comedy or otherwise, his 5,000 or so youtube views per video, and the fact that no one outside Kiwifarms/the IBS community/The TDS community even knows who he is that there are only like 20,000-30,000 or so regular listeners. I don't think the whole thing is a money laundering scheme, but based on the calls he gets and the people he has on, he clearly just has a dedicated base of 5,-6,000 fans that are literally autistic and retarded who are willing to drop $5 a month on the show and get the ability to participate in Dick's community. To Dick's credit the most brilliant thing he does is treating those people like part of his posse in the Discord and inviting them to shows to party with him and just generally making them feel cool/defending them as intelligent online, appealing to their vanity so they keep funneling government disability and welfare money into his pocket. I think he also bases the Dick persona on what a young, semi-autistic virgin would perceive as cool. It's like a prostitute that gets paid to give someone the girlfriend experience as opposed to sex, but he's giving them the cool friend experience.

I don't think you get to this point without having it in you from the get-go. We wanted to see him as the self aware comedian, but in reality he was fulfilling a dream from his nerdy youth. You can clearly see in that video PPP posted from Dax in high school that he was a nerd, which is fine, but he always dreamed of being the macho man.

Tucker Max admitted to having made up the stories after a certain point. I can't remember if he was caught in lies, or just grew tired of it, but either way, Dick is just doubling down. Not only does he double down on the validity of his "Chad" lifestyle, but also all of his crude, horrible takes on life.

If he is any different, in many ways, he's worse in my opinion. Being a delusional serial liar like Tucker Max just doesn't seem that far off from what Dick has always been. He never held those beliefs about women that he espoused in those books, he simply saw the $$$ from that marketing style, which was definitely very viable from around 2005-2012~

I think it was working out for him for at least a small while. There was a point where the podcast had charm - back when he show was about him and his fans venting about the microcosms of mundane life. Ironically, what made the show stale was all the extras he felt were necessary to grow, including the need for superficial drama inside and outside of the podcast.

You can also look at the timeline of the show as a transition. At the start, you have a much more self-aware Dick Masterson. Slowly but surely, he has become the out-of-touch, out-of-control, impulsive, egotistic kind of guy you see today. That's not to say Dick didn't have these elements at the start, but there was a balance. There was some humility that helped shaped the environment - especially one that inspired fan engagement.

I don't know if it is agreeable to say, but Dick didn't really need to replace Maddox after that goss died, and everything he did after the fact has made everything so much more irksome and hostile.
