Well, in the 3M stretch goal they did say they would add in a talking car companion that was built for Reagan. Hopefully they have added him in, I need my commie hating Knight Rider.

Looks pretty good, I just have too many damn games that I need to play. Still haven't finished DOS2 despite having 100 hours in it.

Wasteland 2's biggest sin was how incredibly wordy the beginning was. It took forever until you actually got into the game, for me that normally plays in 45-60 minute chunks it meant that I had to save the game and return to the intro/tutorial the next day. I really liked the game but that almost killed me.

I played Wasteland 2, I liked it, but it also dragged a bit near the end, I'm impressed that I managed to finish it to be honest.
3 looks cool but I'm a little meh on the snowy setting, Wasteland screams desert to me, there were still areas you never visited in 2 like Vegas.
Still, I loved the trailer's use of a "slow, dramatic" cover of Land of Confusion.

Looks like early reviews are positive. Don't really give a shit about reviews but seems like Wasteland is the kinda thing most journos snub their nose at. Hopefully it's actually good. Brian could just be cherrypicking and trying to do PR but based on my knowledge of the dude he seems like one of the few honest game devs.

To me its a nice change of pace from the constant deserts we have in games. I mean holy fuck you'd think the Commonwealth would be a snowy, wet craphole in FO4 but no, gotta be a dry, barren wasteland.

I can get that. Though it depends upon the timeframe for when the game was sent out to reviewers. If it was like one day before the review it's skeezy. But yeah it's not a great practice.

I've always been curious about Wasteland. I love the first two Fallouts and I adore that post-apocalyptic, somewhat goofy, somewhat dark setting those games go for. What holds me back is that I find older CRPGs to be kinda hit or miss. I love me some Ultima but I find it hard to get into Might and Magic, just to name an example. That and I keep hearing how difficult it is; normally I don't mind a challenge but tough RPGs are harder for me to get into, especially older ones. That and I keep hearing mixed things about Wasteland 2. Some people like it, some people don't.
The big question I'm asking is are the first game worth delving into for someone with limited experience with old 80s CRPGs? I can accommodate as much as I possibly can because I do find that period to be fascinating, but I do have my limits. And by extension, is Wasteland 2 any good if I skip the first one?

Sometimes things are a cliche for a reason and desert wasteland simply makes the most sense for the post nuke genre.
Since 3's graphics are so much better than 2's it'd be nice to see the desert rendered in the new engine, I still think the game should have been centered around Las Vegas, but I get they want it to stand out, I can live with a snowy setting, maybe Vegas can be used for Wasteland 4 though.
Yes, you can definitely play the sequel without having played the first, but I would recommend you read a Wikipedia plot summary though as it's pretty important to at least know the story.

Being set in a snow hellhole of Colorado and being co op is honestly the reason I backed it on Fig. The beta being so good only reinforced that it was a good decision.

Conveniently, Wasteland 2 is on sale on GOG, and GOG gives you a free code for Wasteland 1 with the purchase. I'm thinking of biting the bullet and getting 2 on GOG. At least there I can figure out quickly if I should stick with 1 before heading on to 2.
