Kim Jong Un reportedly in a coma as his sister Kim Yo Jong takes control - ITT: Kim might be dead, but his sister's kinda cute

Article (archive)

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has fallen into a coma, a former South Korean official is claiming on the heels of reports that the northern leader has ceded over some of his power to his younger sister.

Chang Song-min, a former aide to late-South Korean president Kim Dae-jung, has alleged that the Hermit Kindom’s honcho has become seriously ill amid speculation about his limited public appearances this year, the Mirror reported.

“I assess him to be in a coma, but his life has not ended,” he told South Korean media.

The former aide added that the leader’s younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, was poised to help lead the country.

“A complete succession structure has not been formed, so Kim Yo-jong is being brought to the fore as the vacuum cannot be maintained for a prolonged period,” he said.

His claims come after South Korean spies revealed that the 33-year-old sibling now serves as his “de facto second-in-command,” though she has not been designated his successor.

In a closed-door meeting with lawmakers, the National Intelligence Service said the power shift partly seeks to “relieve (Kim’s) stress from his reign and avert culpability in the event of policy failure,” the Yonhap News Agency reported.

“Kim Yo Jong, the first vice department director of the Workers’ Party Central Committee, is steering overall state affairs based on the delegation,” the agency reportedly said.

Kim has only been seen in public a handful of times this year after rumors swirled that he was clinging to life in April due to a botched heart operation.

In USSR the leader have to be either backed by KGB or Army. Party Committee was nothing more than a ceremonial event of passing the power. In DPRK, from what i recall, most of the researchers believe in "triangle of power" (Army, Kim family and Party). When Kim Il Sung was preparing his son, Kim Jong Il to take over the power he did as little as possibly he could do. He truly believed that noone would question his choice of putting his son as successor. Once he died amid turmoil of USSR falling to disarray and greatest famine that struck DPRK since... like ever, Kim Jong Il had to seek support in army so he developed Songun ("Army First") doctrine. The well fed army and generals who could steal whatever they liked eased the tensions in DPRK elites but the problem araised once again when Kim Jong Ill suddenly died in his train. His son, Kim Jong Un was somewhat prepared to continue the legacy but they couldn't bribe Army any more because there's nothing more they could give. So the cosmetic operations begun to make him as similar to grandfather as possible.

It's a bit far-fetched but IMHO we are witnessing the same events that happened in USSR in early 80's. The people who build the regime were in their late 70's and 80's and remembered building socialism with Lenin and Stalin. In DPRK the most influential people are old fags who took part in Korean War alongside with Everlasting President. The newer generation while deliberately selected as most loyal to the regime isn't tied to new leader who literally came from nowhere and the only legitimacy to carry the power is the resemblance in look to the grandfather and same name. The only way to sustain power for Kim was to eliminate his uncle so the elites who could put in question his legitimacy could be feared that this chubby-guy isn't fucking around. On the other hand, killing his own kin had to make some... discussion within family threatened by this move. So to ease the tension in family they came with sister to somewhat hold some part of power. Which again confuses army and party elites, who in fact is the leader of DPRK and who is making decisions here.

Yes, living in totalitarian regime is like Game of Thrones live.

IDK why we need to make shit up, the Norkos that get out will tell you themselves how bad things are.

Our speculations on what's actually going on internally, beyond the gross physical facts that like I noted are actually visible from space, are on the level of "Kremlinologists" pondering smoke signals from the limited amount of information we can get.

So anyone on this thread speculating on it is probably just as valid as any pundit on the news, excepting maybe a half-dozen people who do nothing but obsess about North Korea for their entire career.

I'd imagine we have at least one or two whistleblowers somewhere in NK, but considering how paranoid the Kim family I doubt they'd ever be openly revealed to exist until long after the Kims are out of power. Question is, who are they reporting to? The UN? America? Worst Korea? China? IDK. Like you said, so little gets out and what little we do get comes from sources with a vested interest in exaggerating the truth as much as possible.

The "best" information we have are memoirs from low-level defectors, and even then you can't really call them "defectors," just "people who were lucky enough to gtfo."

Read The Aquariums of Pyongyang or Eyes of the Tailless Animals. You're not going to really get anything on the level of "regular normal North Korean urban dweller" aside from maybe the stuff written by Bandi.

They do.
The leaks reported he was dead/dying back in March/April.

They are steady, unbiased sources. Moon Jae-In decided it was an annoying time for this to occur so South Korean "sources" "debunked" it.
It was complete theatre for political reasons.

I think I even linked the archives to the articles of the source in this or the NK megathread.

When it comes to truth and honesty, you're not going to get either out of Moon Jae-in. It's complex, but he's genuinely the worst thing to happen to South Korea.

Expect more rumor that Kim's health issues weren't caused by organic issues. Believe those rumors.

So you are saying he was poisoned/killed? Not saying I am disagreeing (I wouldn't be shocked if it were true), just curious

The Kims and other dictators like to vanish from time to time leaving only a rumor of illness or death. It gives them a chance to see what parts of the party, or which leaders might be working against them, since these opportunists might try to step in and fill a power vaccum that's not actually there.
Once the dictators reappear, a number of high ranking officials tend to vanish soon after.
It's like pruning a tree.

Well, that’s what was said after the last swirl of death/coma rumors a few months back. He was just hiding so he loyalty test his party leaders.

The fact is that Kim hasn’t been seen outside of staged photos released by NK media. Many claimed they’ve just used a body double, which is possible but doctored photos are more likely than finding another North Korean as fat as Kim Un.

I didn’t quite buy the “see he’s still alive, see him at the fertilizer plant celebration” shit in June. He’s had no sightings outside of state media propaganda reports so I think this is very much where there’s smoke there is fire situation. No one seems to be in a hurry to see fat boy declared dead or incompetent - not in NK, SK, China or the west so who knows how long this shit will drag on.

Without getting too in depth, he was always disliked by the old guard, because he was too liberal and westernized, so they had that dislike for him anyway. China has its claws in North Korea's power structure like no bodies business, but there seems to be a more wider reaching power that is behind that, not so much China itself. (I.E long term talks of NK being a pathway for human trafficking, weapons trade etc, it's not so much of a CCP thing as it is beyond that.)
He was well liked within NK and seen as the "last hope" of a positive NK.
It's just all very oddly timed, what with NK being in the midst of a supposedly nationwide famine, having its stores pilfered by China and just general disarray.

Regardless, when KJU and Trump pal'ed around, that was really the nail in his coffin. His health decline after that at a notable pace. He started to express views like reconnecting with SK (which he did, he was viewed very favorably in SK - something like 80% trusted rate) and opening up to the rest of the world, the panic started to set in.
That's when his "health" suddenly went downhill and he was only being trotted out for symbolic purposes.

He's been a dead man walking for a long time.

Kim Jong-Un is a chainsmoker so I wouldn't be surprised if he really were dead.
It really wouldn't surprise anyone that the dude is dead or in a coma. Just look at his face and you can see all the rumors that he leads an unhealthy lifestyle are super easy to believe, guys a fat fuck who eats shit all day while his people starve.

It feels like they're just trying to stretch this out for as long as possible until whatever faction war that's happening behind the scenes is over.

Sidenote, you guys ever see that zombie series Kingdom on Netflix? They pulled the same shit there, they kept the zombie king around to keep everyone believing that he's still alive until the queen could produce an heir for her to rule through and usurp the prince. It's pretty good, although I hear the second season ain't that hot.

  • Float fake story about Fat Boy's infirmity
  • Wait for Western media to pick it up and run with it
  • Rocket Man reemerges
  • "Yet again, the capitalist Western dogs underestimate the resolve of our invincible, glorious Leader!"
Didn't we already do this at least once before? I just assume there's more strife than usual north of the DMZ, and this is one of their propaganda tools
