Dad loved telling his ass-kicking stories when I got older, and I enjoyed hearing them. Like when he partnered with the cop who later became our high school resource officer. We affectionately called him "Joe Cop." During the riots, "Joe" popped a nog so hard in the face only his shoes were left. (True story! He really liked telling that one lol). After he went to a new department, he and other off-duty officers in my hometown would help local pubs as bouncers, and the bars would reward them with bottles of booze or cases of beer. They would then head downtown to drink together, and when finished with a bottle/can, they'd toss it on top of the roof of the old bank building. When it came time to tear that building down years later, they had to bulldoze all the empty liquor bottles and beer cans from the roof before starting demolition (hey, it's his story, I'm just the messenger lol but honestly I wouldn't doubt it).
Sure, cops drink. Some more than others. They drink because of the calls they go on where they've been there many multiple times before, usually involving nogs, and beaten children/wives/girlfriends. He'd often lament about how they go into very dangerous situations, catch 'em, and the judges/DA's let them go. Over and over and over. Seems not a lot has changed over the years
