The protests have been on 16th street ("black lives matter plaza", as far as the lesbo mayor is concerned), which is the big monumental street leading to the WH, since this all started. The WH has been completely untouched because, surprise surprise, the moment you get past the fence you'd get dropped like an animal or faced with all kinds of new Israeli-tested crowd control weapons the letter agencies are itching to try. It's just LARPing on the biggest street in town with a convenient but untouchable backdrop.

I personally believe if an open civil war breaks out then the end result would be infrastructure would be ruined. This would limit the ability to maintain control over the long haul.

Only if the war were on the style of the first Civil War, where states seceded to form a new country and there was some sort of demarcation, meaning campaigns, set-piece battles, etc. Any civil war we'd see here would most likely be a series of smaller engagements, largely fought in urban areas. Battles, in my opinion, will be within states rather than between states. My guess is the civil war wouldn't last long. The Feds/military would come in against BLM/Antifa. Not going to need bomber raids, cruise missile attacks, etc. This war would be most likely fought by ground forces, with artillery, armor, gunship and attack aircraft support. Nuclear weapons and nuclear strike forces will remain very well protected.
