The thing is, police are suppose to confront, that is their job to confront people who have or are suspected of violating the law. They have the authority of the State because they are suppose to confront, some times that means being a massive asshole to remind people who is in charge, it is the police not the people. If you are nice to a cop chances are they will be nice back, but most who come in contact with the cops are assholes and cops need to assert their authority and dominance (of the State).
If you watch the Floyd videos that were leaked, the crowd was trying to control the police and their actions, allowing a crowd to do that successfully is dangerous to the cop, to the arrestee, and any one else involved in the scene. Police need to keep control of the scene to keep every one involved safe.
We have seen for over 90 nights what happens when police are not allowed to assert their authority, riots, arson, murder, attempted murder, assault, robberies, et al. Cops need to be assholes for good reason.
Their job is more critical (in life or death scene) then the troops who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Solider, yet if you tresspass, or other wise show disrespect the guards are massive assholes to those that do it (and for good reason). Yet no one complains about that.
