Similar as they are, there's a few big differences:

Keep in mind that John still needed the help of others in order to finish making episodes of Ren and Stimpy and other projects. He is, like you said though, still more successful than what Alex will ever be. I'm still flabbergasted at how the staff at Spumco were able to bite the bullet and work with John the best they could; I would've lost my mind around the first few days of working for him.
