It looks possible in New York too but they start lower so it's harder. That's generally an outlier though, police pay across the nation ranges from middle class professional to decent to god awful.

Yep. Otherwise it would be considered a violation of the 10th Amendment. My point is that long term deputization of state officers to conduct their regular duties is unconstitutional unless theres a clear withdrawal by the state in question of its obligations to its citizens

Just to remind all, the Modern SCOTUS Approved uses of the Insurrection Act, and of forcing Federal Law Enforcement on States and Cities, was largely to shut down the Klan, who controlled all the levers of the Justice System in the Old South.
