Oh let me try.

“The polio vaccine was invented back when doctors were still recommending an evening cigarette to calm stressed patients.”

Hey what do you know, looks like the polio vaccine is stupid and doesn’t work. By temporal association. Somehow.

Sadly, this is similar to what anti-vaxxers believe. They reckon that the decline in polio, smallpox, etc was caused by Sanitation And Hygiene and that THEY have been attributing it to vaccines to try to browbeat people into having them.

That level of weight gain is usually associated with mood stabilizers or anti-psychotics. Not SSRIs.

If your "anti-depressant" is Symbyax then welcome to chunkville.

Yep. I've sperged about this before, but many antipsychotics will screw you six ways to Sunday on the appetite thing. And the sudden changes in your body that come with that out-of-control appetite can be devastating, which leads to more depression and/or cycling off the meds at the worst time.

Bekah has one thing right, IMO: she says (whether she believes it or not) that it's better to be healthy than conventionally attractive. With medication, you have to balance the side effects with what it will do for you. "Sure, these meds knock me out hard or made me gain some weight, BUT ... (insert positive effect here)" I know people on SSRIs and antipsychs may go through several medications before they find one whose side effects they can live with.

But that also means that you learn to compensate for those negative effects, so they don't become bigger negatives. Once she's stable, she really has to switch to another med that won't drive her insane with hunger. Unfortunately, it sounds like the weight has become some kind of token of her recovery, and now she's leaning hard into the BOPO thing.

I think Bekah will have a hard time to come around from FA the mindset because she has now getting those swewt sweet asspats and social media points. That attention is addictive and she will stay and get fatter till it will be so much worse for her.

Worse, she will be actively hated and harassed and unpersoned for turning her back on them and allowing "diet culture" to brainwash her.

anti-depressants can definantly cause your appetite to increase I totally get that But, that’s no excuse to let yourself go and gain 50 pounds in the span of what two years?

That’s not healthy and shouldn’t just be accepted Bekah....

A psychiatrist once said to me ‘it’s not the medication making you gain weight, it’s what you’re putting in your mouth’. At the time I thought she was a total bitch for saying it but I mean, it’s true.

Can confirm this as well. SSRIs are usually negligible on weight gain/loss department.

Exactly. The hormonal signals these medications trigger make it very hard not to eat, or else interfere with the body telling you when you're full. One can get around this somewhat by avoiding starchy or sugary foods, which don't trigger satiety hormones well, and sticking to high-fat and high-protein foods, which do trigger them.

I doub she's on antipsychotics somehow. For common or garden depression, first line of prescription on the NHS is always Citalopram aka Celexa. I would guess like most people, her weigh gain is from depressive comfort eating and a totally sedentary lifestyle due to lack of engagement or interest in doing anything but eating and sleeping. Antipsychs do increase appetite to a raging degree, but SSRIs I'd question it's more of a typical side effec of depression itself to turn into a fat blob rather than a pharmaceutical one. I'd point out lots of unmedicated people who go through some kind of depressive episode or period of life gain a lot of weight too. Because they stop moving and comfort eat - and junk, because they lack energy to cook or care - and simply don' care what they look like anymore, or lack the physical or mental energy to deal with losing weight.

Seen enough people IRL blame SSRIs when every meal was a smorgasbord of grease and sugary shit.

Becka is still depressed anyway, whaever she says. The girl clearly fails to wash her hair - it always looks stringy, greasy and even unbrushed or combed. Poor hygiene and lack of interest in grooming and appearance are sure signs of depression. I doub she's remotely happy, or 'happier' than before now. A happy person not only doesn't present like she does, they don't indulge in performative online antics the way she does. Essentially, the lady doth protest too much. I would guess she's simply stabilized, but essentially broken and prone to messy bouts of self-loathing. She just has a screen of woke idenity politics to self-soothe with.

So now privilege can be considered due to simply proximity to thinness? Can I claim wealth privilege if I happen to be in the same room as a millionaire?

Not my or anyone else's job to amplify anybody's voice. If they can't speak for themselves & be heard as they wish to be; 2 things are happening... they're not properly communicating or their message is being dismissed by others. Maybe those 2 options are what need to be amplified.

The majority of people understand the value of eye contact, a smile, a polite hello - it's called simple manners & I don't doubt most people of any physical description get that.

If you are struggling with body positivity; that sounds like a personal problem. If you're having a hard time being positive about your body, maybe your BRAIN is trying to tell you something is wrong. How about trying to listen to that message rather than force a false narrative on others you encounter?

I found another fat via the leprechaun Troon, this one is pretty lulzy and less depressing than it... prepare yourself for my Autism, I had to go dig

I’m sorry:stress:
Goodness, that sheet looks like it's covered in bed bug marks.

Hey one thing that’s got up my nose lately is the weird stating of obvious untruths by FA people. Specifically, the using of “good” statements, made to make the speaker sound like they are adhering to a moral eating code.

FAs love to say that food is not a moral issue and you shouldn’t say you’ve “been bad” when you ate cake today, or you’ve “been good” for eating a salad (I agree, but only because it’s annoying to hear.)

Yet these same people seem religiously devoted to using common statements to prove they’re “good fats”....stating they haven’t eaten all day, their favourite food is fresh salads, they love to exercise...all things that scream “I’M BEHAVING WELL, I’M BEHAVING LIKE A THIN PERSON, BELIEVE ME!” Even though it’s obviously not true.

Do they do it to somehow prove that despite living a spartan life of kale and daily sprints, they still weigh 22 stone and therefore weight loss is impossible? Is it a cargo cult thing, where if you say it enough, that lifestyle will come to pass? Do they think if they say it enough to others, that others will start to perceive them as smaller? Or is it unconscious?

Or

I don't understand how these giant babies are able to survive in the world at all. They are so emotionally and mentally fragile. I think there is a legitimate place for recognising the importance of emotions, anxiety, depression, in helping to support people who may need it, but people such as these have absolutely high-jacked such initiatives and warped them into nothing ever being good enough or safe enough for their sensitive tastes...and I say this as someone who is sensitive myself!

They have a vendetta against the entire world but don't seem to understand that the only person they are hurting is themselves. Eating yourself into obesity doesn't stick it to the man, or societah. They are the physical embodiment of drinking a potion named 'resentment' and hoping that it kills off all the thin and pretties, leaving only Muslims and POC behind. But it never will. All they are doing is killing themselves.

It's ludicrous to think that what was considered the fat kid in the 60s looks positively svelte in comparison to the spectrum of fat we are presented with today.

However I've also considered that this movement is basically an extreme response to the heroin chic movement of the early 90s. If every action has an opposite and equal reaction then the HAES movement is essentially the revolutionary response to a culture that was equally, though oppositely, unhealthy, in pushing women towards eating disorders and plastic surgery in the quest for pretty. Whether it's starving yourself into flat chestedness, pumping yourself with silicone to represent porns fetishised ideals, or cramming food down your throat until you break the matrix, all are just different degrees of self-mutilation either to appeal to, or to put the middle finger up to, the man.

They are still living life consumed by what others think of them. Surely it would be more freeing to just walk away from the circus entirely? Then again...deathfats also seem to require a pathological amount of attention. Losing weight and looking pretty would be too ordinary. Being obese they are 'special' in some way...especially if they reach infinifat status.

I've never met a fat person who admitted to eating too much. They all seem to think they eat less than Miranda Kerr before she hit the runway. If you've ever watched Secret Eaters on YouTube, you'll see that most fat people grossly underestimate how much they eat, or are simply living in delusional denial.

Some people still believe that soda and snacks don't contribute any calories or that a five minute walk will eradicate a day of bad eating.

Ooh no no no no, don't you remember? Over eating does not make people fat! You can't tell someones health by the way they look!

I remember that guy on Secret Eaters who ate a mixing bowl of sugary cereal with a banana, several tablespoons of jam, milk, and lashings of double cream for breakfast every day. He could not comprehend why starting the day with this 2000 calorie meal and then eating two more large meals plus snacks on top of a sedentary lifestyle meant he was putting on lots if weight .. years after quitting marathon running as a hobby. It's truly amazing how well humans can deny reality if it suits them.

It really is. It's like they focus on the central meal, cereal or pasta, and forget to count the jam, milk, Greek yogurt, two jars of pesto, side of 15 cookies, 5 cokes and the bowl of ice cream to follow. They underestimate how many calories go into condiments, how much activity is required to burn through the food you consume. What's the quote? Athletes are made in the kitchen not the gym. A lot of these former fitties are actually the worst because they were able to eat so badly and get away with it due to an excessively active lifestyle. When it ends they don't have the nutritional knowledge to maintain a healthy weight/size.

Haha I was going to post this.

Also jacket potato woman. It's healthy 'cause it's a potato duh. Nevermind that it's like breaking four digit calories.

Bloody hell. Why doesn't he just start intravenously injecting high fructose corn syrup and cut out the middle man.

He understood the issue once it was pointed out to him by the friendly dietician lady, adjusted his calorie intake and lost weight. It took someone sitting down and methodically working out the insanr number of calories he took in every day - something he had zero interest in doing - for him to drop the belief he didn't overeat. He was convinced that something mysterious was behind his weight gain as he'd always eaten like this and never gained weight until stopping his marathon training hobby. It sounds so stupid, but people are really quite capable of not putting it all together and reaching for other explanations other than 'eating too much don't exercise enough'. People often really don't understand how much they're eating when they live on calorie dense junk.
