You might have actually stopped breathing due to sleep apnea. Although chances of sleep apnea rise with excess body fat, it can affect even thin people. Did you have a sore throat when you woke up? That's another sign.I had a weird nightmare about my partner changing some kind of filter in our house's ventilation system (side note: we don't have a house or a ventilation system). I was on my computer doing some work when I suddenly heard a weird, loud booming noise. He then walked into the room and calmly said "well, this accident will cost me at least one month worth of salary... and now we will also die."
The air around me was suddenly unbreathable and it felt like I was in a huge vacuum that sucked the air out of my lungs. Dream-me remembered that messing up the filters will turn the whole house into a "vacuum" and you're going to suffocate to death. So there I was, slowly suffocating, my vision going black and blurry but I somehow managed to crawl to the front door and pull it open. The weird vacuum-feeling vanished and I was able to breathe again. I asked him why he didn't just open the door once he noticed that the ventilation system was failing on him but he just started at me blankly for several moments and I woke up, sweaty and panicking.
Fun times. I understand why my brain is throwing the suffocation dream-symbol at me, but I have no idea what's up with the ventilation system, filters and "vacuum" since it's just so super random and nothing I've really thought about before.
