There's obviously several clusters of characteristics at play. One obvious answer is that you need to be a bit of a guillible simpleton to believe this nonsense. I go further and say you need to be within specific parameters of dumb. Not dumb enough that you simply don't bother with thinking about the state of the world. Dumb enough that you cannot really handle ambiguity or complexity because they frustrate you, so these simple, vague, conspiratorial narratives appeal to you.

It's probably born of the fact that Trump has accomplished literally nothing despite the GOP having control over Congress for two years.

It creates a sort of pathos that blossoms into weird conspiracy theories. Must be that Deep State frustrating strong daddy.

I've been pondering the psychological makeup of people who belive in stuff like Q. I know the word "schizo" gets thrown about a lot but I actually do not agree with this. The thing about schizos is that their delusions almost always involve themselves directly. The paranoid schizophrenic believes the Dark Forces are specifically targeting him, a line of thinking caused by the phenomenon of projection - the primary defense mechanism of the paranoid mind.

There's also the issue of self esteem. Adepts of conspiracies use them to prop up their self esteem because they believe they are privy to hidden knowledge, unlike the sheep who believe everything they hear.

A woman I know is a huge QAnon believer, religious nutjob, etc... I give her a pass because she was molested as a child, so I totally get why that'd mess her up. The rest? They're fucking insane, gullible and/or dumb as a box of rocks

I think the real reason that pulls people into these is a comfort mechanism. its much easier to accept that there a groups of assholes out there if you build some giant narrative of them all working together in a grand plot and that if we all just worked together we could defeat them. Instead of the banality of evil that there are tons of small groups all doing fucked up things individually that latch on to other groups and try to get what they want out of things. If the illumaniti was real it would probably be only one of a hundred different interest groups who would just be replaced by the next bunch of rich influential people trying to win the political game. Wonder how many of them would ever wonder if Q himself is some 12d chess sci op

Apparently Osama bin Laden's whore niece has endorsed Q-anon.

something I forgot to post a while ago: I checked out a big Qanon Discord group once, the whole thing was really active, except for the channel about video games, because boomers.

I also saw this:

and that was one of the only posts in there from like the past year

That's irony coming from a QAnoner

Pretty sure he was making a joke about QAnon believers being crazy.
Why, pray, would anyone think that?

In the following videos, the 'Q Shaman' makes an appearance at the Arrowhead Towne Center mall in Glendale AZ (h/t to Julian Feeld of the QAnon Anonymous podcast), to ask why the mall has used- since 1993, before 'boylover.net' ever existed- a symbol that looks vaguely similar to the 'boylover' logo. And also vaguely similar to a stylized arrowhead.

Steinbart had been released from jail pending trial. However, while he had initially been happily chilling in a house with a bunch of his insane cultists, some of them realized he was not an actual time traveler from the future and defected, reporting to the FBI that he was violating his terms of release by drinking and smoking weed.

Steinbart was subsequently arrested after wearing a 'Whizzinator' fake penis to a drug test.

Steinbart had been involved in a project to produce a 'Q movie'. The producers of the film claim to have stopped production because of the 'trending hashtage #freethewhizzinator', which is very unlikely as there are all of five tweets that mention it.

The operator of one of the larger QAnon fake news websites, QMap.pub, has been exposed as New York banker, Citigroup employee Jason Gelinas. Crippled loli-appreciator Frederick Brennan had previously falsely claimed the site was run by widely loved 8chan owner and free speech advocate Jim Watkins.

Here's more info

At this point it's certain multiple people have been posing as Q for the past few years. So far we know of a couple who've been caught on stream posting as Q, a couple who were outed by some journalists at NBC, and Jim Watkins. This shyster makes another one.
Hotwheels wrongly identified QAPPANON as Jim, but I don't think he's ever been outed as him for real. I mean it wouldn't surprise me, but Hotwheels is also just trying to slag Jim and 8chan as much as possible because he has troll's remorse or he's mad about being cut out of the deal or something. So I don't buy anything he says.

I have to wonder what Trump actually thinks of this.
"I have no idea what the fuck these people are talking about but I'll take it".
Some journalist asked him about it as a gotcha question and he basically said "I have no idea what you're talking about, but if I was fighting international pedophiles and satanists wouldn't that be a good thing?"
