I think the real reason that pulls people into these is a comfort mechanism. its much easier to accept that there a groups of assholes out there if you build some giant narrative of them all working together in a grand plot and that if we all just worked together we could defeat them. Instead of the banality of evil that there are tons of small groups all doing fucked up things individually that latch on to other groups and try to get what they want out of things.
