In my worthless opinion, I think the premise actually draws people to it, just looking at the Youtube videos and fandom. The premise is tainted by a procrastinating pedo without passion for game development for sure, but the 'cute anime with a fucked up twist' is petty popular in media. Where I grew up if a high school freshman was flirting with an elementary schooler I'm pretty sure it would have be considered extremely weird (at the very least) by everyone. I can only imagine it's different in some third world inner city shithole where nine year olds regularly lose their virginity, or among kids completely socialized on the internet and disconnected with reality.
