"JK Rowling is a gigantic TERF bigot who probably sneaks into clothing stores to sew women's pockets shut so she can enforce her views of gender essentialism"
I'm about to sperg, but that person's comment gave me an aneurysm.
It still amuses me how these trans "activists" have clearly never bothered to get their definitions straight or codify an ideology around what it actually means to be a trans "woman". I mean, they can't though, because there is no way to base these definitions in a manner that allows anyone to be whatever sex they want while also being logically consistent, and not resulting in circular reasoning. But it will never cease to amaze me that, after all this time, they still conflate sex with gender, or don't see a need to distinguish between the two.
What JK Rowling has been speaking on is biological sex, a.k.a, material reality; yanno, males have a Y chromosome and females don't, which results in profound and immutable differences in their respective phenotypes etc. and all that. Rowling, as is the case with most "TERFs", has said nothing about gender/sex roles or how one should conform to them (to my knowledge). I can't figure out if these troons genuinely don't see that they are arguing at cross purposes with her, or if they deliberately ignore that fact because they know, deep down, their ideology is built on a house of cards.
Ironically, and hilariously, it's actually they who are the "gender essentialists" in this case; in that they seek to base determination of sex on how much one's individual preferences and behaviors conform to, or deviate from, ideas of masculinity and femininity, i.e. "I'm a man who likes wearing slutty, feminine clothing, watching lezzie porn and being sensitive and nurturing, or some shit, therefore I is wimin." In some cases not even that though, as now it seems to have shifted to "I'm a woman because I say I am", and no requirement or expectation to even justify that with some misguided sense of gendered behaviors or collective/cultural descriptors.
The situation is a great illustration of just how regressive in nature the whole far leftist/critical theory dogma can be. We've migrated away from a fairly widely accepted, and progressive, stance of: sex is immutable but, yanno, do you; dress, look, behave, have sex etc. however you see fit, and irrespective of your sex. Now it's: if you are a man/woman who doesn't entirely identify with masculinity/femininity, or feels uncomfortable with your body in anyway, you are actually a different sex.
Fucking idiots.
