Trump should immediately fill Ginsberg's seat with a moderate who is very far to the right on Second Amendment rights. That would allow him to effectively appeal to an important part of his base, while simultaneously only minimally energizing the left. That aside, my earlier statements about Trump probably winning the election in November are hereby withdrawn, this is too much of a monkey wrench to throw into the machinery of our political system for me to be able to make any sort of prediction either way, now.

I mean, why wouldn't he call a lid? There's absolutely nothing newsworthy going on right now. Nope, not a thing...

45 days from Election Day, calling a lid is inexcusable. I can see the damage control now from anti-Trump forces though.
THEY'RE HAVING A DAY OF MOURNING! LET BIDEN MOURN FOR GINSBURG DONT YOU DARE FORGET IT

Again, I'm just not sure how that this affects the race that much. The people who worship Ginsberg were already going to vote Biden. This may motivate some of the liberals on the left, but it also causes Republicans to come home to Trump who were lost to him, like in Arizona and Florida. At best, it might siphon sycophant's money on the left, but I don't see this changing anyone's mind who wasn't already going to vote for their candidate.

I wonder how a pushed nomination would play with each voter. Would Dems be so blackpilled that they don't vote or rage to vote? Weren't they already mad? Too many situations. We should atleast let the body go cold before we jump to conclusions.

The GOP needs to fill the seat. The base doesn't want to see them finesse play and wait until after the election. The base wants to see them power play and ram through a nominee now. I'm not interested in using the seat as a carrot to win the election. I'll the seat now and I'll take the election later too.

I actually think having the seat open helps the Dems more than the GOP. Because leftists aren't good about anything that isn't tangible. Everyone on the right already knew RBG wouldn't survive another term. But now that the vacancy is no longer hypothetical, the left can actually comprehend its importance.

Let's fill that seat, boost the morale of the GOP base even more and completely demoralize the Dem base.

Thinking about this some more, I think the higher payout is to nominate and confirm.

Pros
- Eliminates strong Democratic motivator for election. Like what @heyitsmike said, this is a huge thing.
- Trump can utilize this to shore up some of his support, by nominating a woman (better yet a Latina). This can also blunt some of the Democratic accusations.
- Trump can still appoint a Constitutionalist in the next term, as it makes it far safer for Justice Thomas and some others to retire.
- Secures Conservative legacy, as increasing the size of the judiciary is far less tangible and harder to do (and more politically uncomfortable), even with Democratic control of Congress.
- High likelihood of depressing Democrat vote upon success, slight-moderate Republican boost from victory glow/promises kept.
- Forces Kamala and Joe to stay in Washington.
- May create judicial backup in case election is contested.
- Hedging the bets, I think that the Supreme Court doesn't matter that much to normies, who might just see it as a boring abstract institution.

Either Way
- Strong media circus may allow some political maneuvering to happen outside the spotlight.
- High likelihood of leftist violence during the proceedings.

Cons
- Huge risk if RINOS cause it to fail- may reinvigorate Democrat vote in the short period ahead of the election.
- Creates uncertainty during a period when the President needs to look resolute.
- Strong likelihood of a strong negative media circus in crucial period where positive news is important.
- Strong likehood of turning off some moderates who may consider it 'Republican hypocrisy'- moderate-strength Democrat platform plank would be gained.

Lets see if Trump nominates someone..and how the election and fallout from it go.

Get ready electric rat, this year still has plenty of Crazy left to mine.

I'm half expecting McConnell to push a nomination just far enough to spark more riots that the GOP can then turn around and beat the DNC over the head with.

I am getting emails and texts from GEOTUS that he plans to fill the seat.

Slamming that SCOTUS nomination should be done now this keep to kill all momentum from the democrats for wanting Biden in office.

The riots are already happening and they happening in deep blue urban areas with the help of Soros appointed DAs. And the majority of people killed have been their precious black men, who will still turn out for Biden more. Let them all burn whatever is left of their shit now.

Why do the Dems have such bad timing?
- Coronavirus was too early, now it's under control.
- Protests were too early, now they're starting to do more damage than good.
- RBG died too early, now there's just enough time for the GOP to fill her seat.

Now Biden needs to come up with a SCOTUS list and probably a specific name, and he's already committed to a black woman, which narrows his choices. He's gonna have to make a case for waiting after the election at the debates. The Dems will be rioting and acting a fool while early voting is occurring.

This is a disaster for them.

Our POTUS and Senate should not negotiate with terrorists.

Fill the spot. Pronto.

They have to in case the election gets contested in another Bush v Gore type case. If SCOTUS was only 8 people it could split 4-4 and cause a deadlock. I absolutely expect there to be a replacement judge by 3 November.

I'm just eager to know who Trump is actually going to pick. I assume it's Amy but I would love some insane madlad choice. I don't really care about the situation in general, since the only thing I've been paying attention to is Trumpbux 2.

You know what, fuck it. Just pick Kamala as your SC pick buddy.
I agree with Amy Coney Barrett. If I recall correctly, she was his second choice after Kavanaugh.

Exactly. That would be chaos, and would actually be unprecedented.

Throughout my teen years and now my adult life, I would laugh at anyone and everyone who said "This Election is the most important one ever!" every four years. I especially laughed at people who said that in 2012. My response was, "Well, whoever wins, let's all give congrats to George Dubya Bush for winning a fourth term." That definitely pissed people off, and I enjoyed pissing people off.

I can't believe it, but this year is totally different. Definitely the most important general election in my lifetime. I can't believe I am saying this unironically now. This year is an absolute shitshow.

This is the culmination of increasing political polarisation which has been growing since the 1990s, so that's a reasonable assertion. Time will tell if it's significant on the level of 1860.

Personally I would hope that whoever Trump picked would be for their legal credidentials over anything else, but everything is so politcized either way that I probably should just resign myself to enjoying this shitshow.

I want it to be a gay PoC female conservative just for the resulting shitshow.
