Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died at 87. - 🦀

I'm pretty sure if he wanted to he could skip the judiciary committee and the actual hearing, since the point of the Judiciary Committee is just to give some kind of endorsement(or non endorsement) for the candidate when they head to the full Senate for the final confirmation vote. According to Lindsey Graham, it seems they are going to have some kind of formal process, but said all 11 Republicans in the Judiciary Committee will support the nominee.
Something to keep in mind, while they are on a deadline for this, very little of it would procedurally require a set amount of time. This means they are free to shave corners off while maintaining the full process.

Here is how it is going to play:
New Justice will be fasttracked
Two Senators have already confirmed to be voting no, but Romney is keeping quiet.
Romney will oppose last minute, forcing Pence to play tie-breaker.
This will put the left into a brand new meltdown over just how ILLEGAL this somehow is, ensuring a large dem turnout.
Biden wins.
New Justice is impeached over Pence’s tiebreaker, somehow was never a real justice.

Hear me now, believe me later.

Good luck getting 67 votes in the Senate to do that.

I don't think the impeachment part makes sense. I'm pretty sure supreme court justices have been impeached even less than POTUS, it would be insane to even try.

I kind of hope the House does impeach Trump again, and McConnell schedules the trial for January 21st. "Sorry, very busy here, we'll get to it after the holidays." Then we can have a back-to-back inauguration and acquittal, probably a straight week of parties.

I'm not a Congressional procedure expert, but I did go to Boys State with one of Hastert's cherubic pages, so take this for what it's worth: Federal judges have lifetime tenure with good behavior. Pence casting a vote isn't a crime on the part of the judge, so it's not grounds for impeachment. And there's no other legal way for the legislature or executive to remove a judge. They'd have to sue the Senate, and the Supreme Court would decide whether or not the vote was valid. They will call it a political question and defer to the Senate record, because interfering with their colleague's appointment would seriously damage the Court's reputation. And because it's not their job to count the votes in the Senate, but mainly to maintain their reputation.

I'm still not getting why Mittens would vote against the nominee. I mean that would just show that he's totally feckless, but we already knew that anyway. Out of spite of him losing in 2016 and Trump actually firing up Republican/conservative voters?

Even flaky Flake voted to confirm Kavanaugh with all the controversy surrounding him. Mittens would be totally stupid to vote no against a fine nominee like ACB.

Romney hates Trump and wants to ruin his legacy.

Democrats going full 1950s boomer on Russia is just hilarious. Like yo, that is a specialty of the Republicans and they know how to do it properly. Like they suck at trying to hate on Russia.

Also I remember when Obama and rightfully so mocked Romney when he tried to fear monger about Russia and looks like they forgot all that.

I think the hatred of Russia is coming from Putin just making Obama look like a bitch ass pussy in Crimea and Syria. Russia might have a shitty economy and low GDP but they have no shortage of testosterone to get shit done.

Nuclear option. Republicans only need a majority 50+1 (pence) to push through another Supreme Court Justice. Dems got rid of the filibuster lmao.

EDIT: I think something got mucked up somewhere or you replied to a different person or I did. I dunno. I'm tired. Rate me dumb plz.

Look, we only need to consult one person on this matter, the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:

Yeah I was talking about the impeachment of a Supreme Court Justice, which Democrats would need 2/3 of the Senate vote to remove.
