You can use a transvaginal scan to determine an early pregnancy, check for issues with the cervix or placenta; she may be in a high risk category and that's why they broke it out so early.

I think a lot of it has to do with kids being impressionable when it comes to their parents behaviors and actions, especially when a child witnesses how their parents treat the grandparents. But, at the same time, I believe there's a part of a childs behavior that's ingrained in them through their genetics. Kinda like how kids who are adopted share behavioral traits of their biological parents.
