Sorry, I should be more precise about timeframe. We haven't really had a hard left since the 70s or 80s, so people from the 90s on didn't have anything to contrast "liberal" with, which is why it was possible for the two terms to be conflated.

Most people who call themselves "Libertarian socialist" are really trying to look like "the 'COOLER' socialists." Calling themselves "libertarian" is a shield for the "socialism" part, because they want to tax others and have the government pay for their shit, but also, not be called a hypocrite for directly benefiting from capitalism (i.e. like June who is paid to exist).
