My mom told me that back in the day, "community organizers" would rent a bunch of school buses on election day and ferry entire neighborhoods at a time to the polling places and it still wasn't easy getting the large turnout of "low information" black voters they were hoping for.

That was until they had the brilliant idea to start paying them all 5$ each and feeding them lunch at Popeyes. That really got the community excited about the Democratic electoral system.

That’s not a surprising strategy, it’s done elsewhere. In some Latin American countries they’ll try bribing you to vote a certain way. Sometimes with money but often with food and alcohol. In Paraguay they also organize bus rides and have people that do regular visits to make sure you actually show up to vote. lol. In other LA countries, like Brazil and Peru, it’s required and if you don’t vote you get fined. I’ve seen some progressives support these ideas to increase turn out. In particular requiring people to vote.

Like with many things, they jumped the gun too early. The riots should have started in mid October instead of late May. The impeachment trial should have been closer to the election as well (on top of having a more solid case against Trump). Additionally, RBG should have retired in 2009 when Democrats had control of the Legislative and the Executive branches. A lot of this stems from hubris. Had they been more willing to wait instead of trying to throw everything at Trump early on, they could have built more credibility, but chose not to.
