So i noticed a fair amount of "the killstream used to be good" posts opining a lost age of the killstream. I have to ask your qualifications, do you mean the show was good or that it was able to have amazing moments? Imo if you mean the former i think youre looking with rose colored glasses as the show itself was always god awful, the only saving grace was they could book or facilitate or not prevent moments that made the mind numbing boredom that was the majority of the program endurable. Even then a good chunk of people including myself just waited for clips and highlights most of the time instead.
The only killstream that i remember that was good as a whole, and because of the hosts and not in spite of, was the Baked stream. That was just because the impromptu nature of it meant ethan could be forgiven for not having any preparation or not having anything too interesting to add himself. Other than that, which i might be looking at with a filter too, i have never once sat through a whole killstream just for the killstream its alway been a draw, then they show it then i bounce
edit: it cant just be me since posts in chat and sites like this iirc were filled with similar sentiment, regarding whatever filler ralph and co threw in between jim or sargon or whatever moment as utter crap that we slogged through rather than enjoyed or indeed tolerated
I agree. I really don't understand how anyone can say the show was good, especially in the las year and a half.
For me, the only time the show was watchable was before Ralph got banned from YT, and it wasn't because of Ralph, it was because they stumbled upon spectacle after spectacle, the trash fire burned consistently for a while, starting with Baked, but even then I remember fast forwarding through the shows to listen to the relevant segments.
The KS as a show has always had garbage production quality, from awful sound production to inconsistent quality/uninteresting content that stretches the show to 2-3 hours. There were only a handful of times where the stream was interesting from start to finish and it was because of the guests or some event that had happened.
Try to find a random episode of the show from 2 years ago and listen, you'll see it's mostly the same garbage as now with maybe an interesting segment at the end.
Remember that Jim praised Ralph because the KS didn't depend on drama and could focus on politics when there was nothing else going on, but as soon as they moved to stream.me and Ralph said he was going to focus on politics and not drama, the audience started realizing the hosts were boring as fuck. The last time I remember watching the KS was when Godwinson was on, and the following drunk stream complaining about "lolcow scholars" and Toad for making fun of Knoxville.
The interesting part were the guests/confrontations/drama, and as it has already been said, Ralph inherited that from the Kumite because Tonka is a dumbass that just like Ralph, wanted to be the start of the show. If Robi had managed to not be a jealous mentally ill bitch, Ralph would have probably had much less success during the YT era.
I do have to admit that at the beginning, it seemed like Ralph had learned his lesson in jail but that didn't last long, the fact is that just like Dax, having 'enemies' (Baked, skeptics, Sargon, Matt, etc.) helped him look good in comparison, everyone was in agreement what pieces of shit the skeptics were so it was easy to focus on that instead and not notice the hypocrisy on Ralph's part.
Also, while Zidan has always been better than Ralph (especially when it came to booking guests and preparing for the show), realistically, his own after show was boring as fuck and amounted to what Ralph does today, watch clips, read articles and have a bunch of callers that no one cared about. That said, I'm sure he would be able to put out a show that's much better than Ralph's.
That's probably the problem with bloodsports, the show sucks ass but the drama fuels it's lifespan.
