Yeah funny thing. Catholics are probably the least likely identifiable group to vote on the basis of said group identification. I'm Catholic, outside of the lower tiers of the Clergy who are all squishy liberals, the actual Catholic Laity largely can't stand Biden or Pelosi. Catholics normally split 50/50 unless there is a core issue on the table. And really the only core issue that they all have an opinion on is mostly abortion. Maybe a bit leaning towards immigration, but the Catholics who are largely for illegal immigration for the most part can't (legally) vote.
With that said Amy Barret Comey will likely energize a good chunk of the Practicing Catholic's. she is young, personable and a fairly clear role model type. Plus she laid the smackdown on Diane Feinstein last go round. And Catholic's like a good entertaining political beatdown as much as anyone else.
People should probably be cautious at reading too much into "Catholic's" as a single group. American Catholics tend to be fickle ala carte creatures, with a certain mixed fascination and distrust/horror at our current Pope. The Catholic Church is one of the oldest functioning Political Bodies in the world. With a Byzantine Maze of internal politics, aliances, fights, scandals, etc that span's 6 continents. I believe the only older one currently still functioning is the Japanese Imperial Household. Which these days has a much smaller scale of internal politics. (With ironically the greatest internal political schism and scandal was when the last Emperor Akihito married a Catholic.)
