Going back to the debate sperging, I think that would actually be a bridge too far for the media. They like to think of themselves as something between kingmaker and crooked sports referee. They may constantly try making calls to favor the Democrats, but the Democrats need to give them something to work with. You can't make calls favoring the blue team if the quarterback won't leave the fucking locker room.

The media is probably getting more critical of Biden to try to send a message. I suspect that Biden's campaign, like Hillary's, is extremely insular and the supposed stakeholders, like the media, tech industry and big donors are not given a way to communicate with them. The media can see the disaster coming and they're trying to shock the campaign into listening to them.

As for the Biden campaign, I suspect that they and the DNC are in complete panic meltdown mode. Imagine running a Presidential campaign for a candidate who literally can't leave the house most days and at best can travel an hour away.
