Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Short Pokemon Masters Update:

James with his Weezing are now playable

Also, I wanted to share this exchange I had with Grimsley:

Maybe all the type trainers just do it for the aesthetic.

4KIDS rarely cut corners in their productions. There's kind of a reason they went bankrupt eventually, they were too carefree about their finances, but they were attentive to quality (at least for their golden geese).

Some people could argue that was even part of the problem - that rather than translating things more literally, they had to rewrite and re-edit things people in hindsight vastly prefer untouched.

Bewear: Can snap full-grown trees in half with a backhanded swing. Has been known to crush human spines on accident. Greatly feared for its immense strength.

Ursaring: Random regular ol' bear who's lore is almost entirely just about finding food.

My guess is that it's because Bewear is just less intelligent and more hot-tempered than Ursaring

I know we don't usually discuss the TCG but is anyone else looking forward to the release of the Champion's Path premium set tomorrow? I have a feeling tracking down products for it due to it having two different Charizard cards in its list of secret rares.

No? Okay then...

I was going to say something about recent worldbuilders having to be held to entries that a much less experienced team bullshitted out - and were already mocked for their goofiness - but then I actually read the Ursaring dex entries.

Leafgreen: "Although it is a good climber, it prefers to snap stout trees with its forelegs and eat fallen Berries."

So what the fuck are you talking about? Putting aside any vagueness of Attack != Strength, that's totally a comparable level of power. The difference could be argued as differences in temperament, build (Ursaring having better claws/teeth) etc.

You came here to complain about dex entries not making sense and managed to pick one of the few pairs of pokemon that are reasonably consistent with each other.

I don’t know much about pokemon tcg but that shit is pretty popular in a country that I currently reside in.

Minor but it was an incredibly missed opportunity to not call Copperajah the Indian Elephant pokemon. Or at least call Cufant "Topsyfant".

I hop on the online TCG every once in a while. Pack codes are cheap since they tie everything to the physical TCG instead of selling cards directly. I wonder if Champion's Path will end up with any meta-defining cards like how Shining Legends had Zoroark-GX last gen.

I wish I could have enjoyed Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire more, but they have too much of the Gen 6 crud on them to be likable. There are a lot, but making Mauville a "hub" city with weird camera angles like Lumiose stood out to me because it was absolutely unnecessary. I really dislike Gen 6, even the Mega Evolutions which are regarded as the best generational battle gimmick. They also did the whole handing out random legendaries like candy thing which I don't care for, but is probably considered a genwunner/nostalgiafag thing to hate. At that point I think I realized Pokemon was getting bad and it wasn't going to improve.

Eh, New Mauville was kind of hinted at in the original game. Only problem is that you still have to go inside the ruins to turn off a generator in ORAS.

Yeah, if they changed the Abandoned Ship to an offshore research facility to better fit New Mauville being a tech/R&D hub they could have done something else with the ruins.

Unless they're notably fucked up, PokéDex entries aren't as well-known among the fans. Some folks I guess are just too lazy to hop on Bulbapedia for a look.

Didn't that happen in Emerald, too, or no?

It’s unlikely, the set only consists of 73 cards (plus 5 secret rares). Two cards I could see being used are the new Galarian Obstagoon (has an Ability that forces your opponent to discard cards from their hand until they have 4 left) and Galarian Cursola V (has an Ability that puts 3 damage counters onto your opponent’s Pokemon whenever they attach an Energy from their hand to them). The former has use in Dark decks whilst the latter will probably end up in a gimmicky rogue deck that functions with Biting Whirlpool Arctozolt.

The minute you mentioned ”...Fire Deck in a format where a Pokémon wholly immune to Fire damage exists” I could straight up tell that the video in question featured a MelCario deck and I’m glad to see that I was right.

Also, it’s worth noting that Zamazenta V would’ve also been immune in this match if his opponent evolved Centiskorch V into Centiskorch VMAX via its Dauntless Shield Ability.

I think that second thing happened later in the day to somebody else.

Haven't played a Pokemon game since gen 3 but I've been playing through Platinum recently for the first time and...its not so good. The basic gameplay loop is the same which is still enjoyable but something just doesn't click, maybe all the little annoyances are adding up to a bad experience. There are way too many HMs and exploring the map is more annoying than previous generations. Doesn't feel like they added anything of substance other than a bunch of pointless side activities I couldn't care less about. The new Pokemon designs all feel uninspired and lame (though maybe thats my nostalgia talking).

I just got done with the Ice gym and was close to giving up completely on this game. Every battle in this area has an ice storm which adds bullshit time to every battle, there are snowy pits which slow you way down when walking and I had to fuck around trying to get a new HM slave because I already taught 4 moves to my other one by this point, all so I could climb some rocks to talk to my idiot rival. Give me a fucking break.

Do Gen 5+ games improve or am I better off just replaying Crystal from here on out.

Man, tell me about it, i played Pokemon Platinum right after Pokemon Diamond, despite i didn't even like Diamond in the first place, but, a lot of people all over the internet kept sucking Platinum's dick by saying how much of masterpiece it was, and to me, it wasn't, i had to traverse Sinnoh with two HM slaves twice. After finishing Platinum. i didn't want to play a Pokemon game for nearly a year.
