I'm still not sure what Jeffrey hopes to do by buying Something Awful. The dead guy forums will continue to become deader and gayer. He reopened FYAD, so we know the extremely valuable troons on Bread and Roses aren't going to come back. There's really no way to make a conventional internet forum in decline relevant again, especially one that costs too much to post in what is currently one of the most toxic and acutely dysfunctional communities online.
It's literally less popular and relevant than ResetERA, and that's a site largely defined by its disdain for everyone else and everyone else's disdain towards them. And the biggest problem is that Jeffrey himself doesn't want to change Something Awful. He's a guy willing to shell out six figures for a dying Web 1.0 dinosaur. So far all Jeffrey has done is enforce a complete lack of change by bringing back FYAD because he's friends with some of the people who post there. And then concocted a half baked story about how all the controversy was actually caused by clout chasing sociopaths trying to seize more power, as if that shit hadn't already been SA's default state of being for over a decade.
Jeff doesn't seem to be here to fix or improve Something Awful. Jeff seems to be here because he's one of those autists that spend six figures on model train catalogues. He's got an unhealthy fixation, is not sufficiently ashamed about it, and is willing to waste a lot of money to have it.
All of that doesn't really matter. If the internet has taught me anything, it's that you only need a few thousand paypigs to make A LOT of money. Jeffrey will probably be able to wring millions from goons over the next decade, those morons are a gold mine for anyone that has the keys to Something Awful. He's making an investment that will give him big returns if he can stay somewhat on the good side of those freaks.
