Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

I'm still not sure what Jeffrey hopes to do by buying Something Awful. The dead guy forums will continue to become deader and gayer. He reopened FYAD, so we know the extremely valuable troons on Bread and Roses aren't going to come back. There's really no way to make a conventional internet forum in decline relevant again, especially one that costs too much to post in what is currently one of the most toxic and acutely dysfunctional communities online.

It's literally less popular and relevant than ResetERA, and that's a site largely defined by its disdain for everyone else and everyone else's disdain towards them. And the biggest problem is that Jeffrey himself doesn't want to change Something Awful. He's a guy willing to shell out six figures for a dying Web 1.0 dinosaur. So far all Jeffrey has done is enforce a complete lack of change by bringing back FYAD because he's friends with some of the people who post there. And then concocted a half baked story about how all the controversy was actually caused by clout chasing sociopaths trying to seize more power, as if that shit hadn't already been SA's default state of being for over a decade.

Jeff doesn't seem to be here to fix or improve Something Awful. Jeff seems to be here because he's one of those autists that spend six figures on model train catalogues. He's got an unhealthy fixation, is not sufficiently ashamed about it, and is willing to waste a lot of money to have it.

All of that doesn't really matter. If the internet has taught me anything, it's that you only need a few thousand paypigs to make A LOT of money. Jeffrey will probably be able to wring millions from goons over the next decade, those morons are a gold mine for anyone that has the keys to Something Awful. He's making an investment that will give him big returns if he can stay somewhat on the good side of those freaks.

However I think a gated-forum could be successful. Not SA with the current crop of tards running the show mind you, but you could have a successful business model where a nuisance fee keeps out the russian spambots and at least the majority of the 13 year olds, as a curated web experience where there is less white noise and you have people posting about life experiences and you can go ask small, general questions and get people giving actual answers.

I honestly don't know if the ten dollar rereg fee actually works to improve the health of a community, because in most places, a ban is a ban. A ban remains a ban on kiwifarms, rpg.net, ResetERA, reddit, or any other internet hellhole. On Something Awful, a ban is a ban up until you can put together a ten dollar bribe for Lowtax so he can get some cookies in between 4PM pummeling sessions for his current luckless spouse. Short of committing actual crimes (or attempting to make a parachute account around a probation), you will almost never be subject to a permanent ban.

It basically means that the most obnoxious and unbearable people are free to continue their reign of terror as long as they can skip their daily Mickey D's value meal, and is probably one of the reasons why things collapsed so much. So many people, with nothing to offer or contribute aside from tossing cash into the bottomless pit that is Lowtax's life.

I'm sure it'll be good for Jeffrey, it was certainly good for Lowtax, but I think even the most zealous Something Awful death cultist is feeling a lot more burnt out compared to before. It's not as good as it used to be, because the most entertaining people leave and don't come back while the biggest retards are more than welcome as long as they pay a flat fee.

Remember mod challenges, that fun tradition of the Something Awful forums?

Have correct political opinions, goon citizen. Deviance will be penalized.

The kicker? He would have complied with this totally sane demand, but APA formatting? That's just crazytown.

Wait, am I reading this right? Are these morons really still trying to stan for Jussie Smollett? Talk about dedication to the narrative.

For SA to regain relevance/utility it'd require a huge overhaul and I don't know if there are enough posters not injecting Horse or Horsepiss to make it worth while. I mean the model in general.

SA essentially has bans between perma & normal, which is ban + probe (which of course you can skate through if you sob to a mod after paying your tenbux). The whole "ok, well if you are going to be an obnoxious poster, you can contribute financially to the site" can work, but it needs to be enforced. And really the big scandal is that you aren't financially supporting SA's server when you ate a ban, you're financially supporting Goldbelly.

Its also not like you can't avoid bans here or on plebbit by just using a new Email address, just at the cost of resetting your ecred. Isn't your ecred worth $10?

I don't know how MS divorce works, but as an asset that precedes the marriage which lasted like 4 years, she is likely not entitled to half.
I don't either. I just want her to get paid.
eh i wish there was a SA owner who was able to make a thunderfdom where goons can pay to unban/ban their enemies
I thought of ways to turn the forums into a gacha game/lootbox experience if I ever won 100s of millions from the Powerball and bout the forums while I was catching up Lowtax and SA threads. I think there is some fun stuff an enterprising individual could do to make some money there beyond tenbux reregs and paying for avatars. They'd all hate it and get angry, but eventually it would lure them in with SA branded limited edition sparkly gif avatars or gang tags themed in trannydom, antifa, killing chuds, etc. Then the clout chasing and gambling addiction would take over. There's some opporitunity for real fun as long as you're not trying to make a profit and don't go overboard too quick causing everyone to leave in a huff.

I don't think the problem was ever that it had that 10 BUX thing going for it. It's main problem for the past 10 years has been that it's been colonized by a crowd who use the place's reputation as a troll-shield and as their personal army to launch crusades against anyone who even dares to entertain the notion that ridiculously entitled manchildren dressing up like poor caricatures of women aren't the bestest, most unique creatures on this rock of a planet. Then again, this problem has been entrenched by pretty much every admin ever since Ozma got free reign on the forums to mold it to her cat-lady brigade's linking.

You have not been paying attention to the current state of SA (to your credit). It is a matter of course to issue permabans for political wrongthink if you get a reputation for it.

It doesn't even have to be explicitly pro-Trump, just not leftist.

Lowtax made $10,000 for MS paint starships that he never actually delivered on.
Shit isn't chess. I'm not evens sure its checkers.

I'm not sure why Rime keeps bothering to effort post in D&D only to eat the fascist boot instead of abandoning the subforum (lol, the idea of D&D goons ever abandoning D&D). Similarly bizarre at this point why he hasn't just landed a perma if the entire mod & admin team really believe him to be a boring ol' genocidal racist like their good friend / forums administrator R. Guyovich.

It's because if Something Awful were anything other than an incompetent misery festival run and populated by the most tiresome and autistic of people, then it wouldn't be Something Awful.

Plus, well, they can't exactly throw away anyone still willing to give them money for good. They're a dying breed.

He deserves to own SA. I mean that in every conceivable sense.

This is my kind of leftist: he sort of is not in favor of Trump I guess but he despises Biden, and especially anyone who votes for him.

Posts like this are delicious candy to me but given the state of the forums I'm a little surprised OP got three days for it. Somebody should make a post in QCS about how unfair it is.

That's my kind of leftist as well. Can't believe they're still on there, have they just been dead silent until this?

"No Joe" is an entire movement on CSPAM, refusing to vote for Joe Biden and being blackpilled doomers complete with their own gang tag.

Naturally, they're in a bloody civil war with the marginally more moderate goons of Debate and Discussion.
