Details: The debate will be 90 minutes long and have no commercial breaks. There will be no opening statements, and instead Wallace will dive right in with the first question to Trump. It will be divided into six 15-minute segments that Wallace has chosen. They are:
1) The Trump and Biden records;
2) The Supreme Court;
3) Covid-19;
4) the economy;
5) race and violence in cities;
6) the integrity of the election.

After the debates a poll will be posted on who you think won this first debate. Have lots of fun, keep the commentary fresh as I'm sure we've all heard many of the same lines for months and enjoy the beginning of the end of this presidential election cycle. Just as a reminder, on October 7th there will be a Vice Presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah.
You can view Joe Biden's megathread here, and Donald Trump's megathread here

The debate was just two boomers arguing and it won me over on neither side. Jesus Christ, you had your chance and you blew it.
Also the fact he pulled another Charlottesville by vaguely mentioning white supremacy instead of directly denouncing it, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST TRUMP. JUST DENOUNCE IT. That shit was fucking dumb.
He's done it like 15 fucking times, even during the last election cycle. It's clear as fucking day he's not a white supremacist and that this is a gotcha type question. Everyone that thinks Trump is a wignat will never change their mind about it, meanwhile it's blatantly obvious to everyone else (even those that dislike him), that he isn't one. It's like the tax return angle, it's so overused that it has lost all effectiveness as a political strategy.

If after months of rioting and people being shot on the streets, you think white supremacy is a legitimate thing to bring up during the debate, you've lost it

All I want to know is, what he meant by telling the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by", white supremacist or not.

Even I'm a little weirded out by that and wonder where this might be going.
IMO what he said, or didn't say, was a result of the moderator having zero fucking control. Watch the segment again, all three are talking over eachother, arguing points from 2 sentences ago. it's a mess.

I still think he should have just fucking nailed that talking point on the head with a generic denouncement, but shit happens and he was more interested in being seen as fighting 2v1 than he was in actually answering most questions.

Debate prep for the next one should focus on which topics (very few of them) Trump needs to slow down for and take a deep breath before talking about, making sure to be slightly more concise with a handful of other points, and not being as keen to interrupt quite so quickly. He can interrupt just as hard, but if his aim is to get Joe to hang himself then at least let the man supply enough rope next time around, additionally the moderators will be a lot more hard pressed to 'fairly' help him out if they don't have the cover of doing it in order to wrangle the discussion back on track etc.

Everyone ignores the fact that it was a loaded question to begin with. Chris Wallace has lumped up militia, Proud Boys and Kyle Rittenhouse (it's what he was referring to when he mentioned Kenosha I assume, correct me if I'm wrong) with white supremacists. Trump replied correctly.

I think more people care about Antifa destroying their neighborhoods frankly . It's not the Proud Boys rioting and destroying busineses and homes. It's not that people like wignats as it is wignats aren't the ones causing chaos around the nation (except maybe online).

Im coming in at the end of this now, but I think we all need to be honest that a presidential debate is a relic of the old two party Hollywood production elections of previous decades. They are pointless now, we are well past them. If anyone is still "undecided" and needs a debate to finalize their vote then they are not mentally astute enough to be allowed to vote.

Im fine with Trump being a bully and Im glad we dont have to hear the sickening previously used phrases like "my friend" and the other garbage weak candidates have said in debates, but I do wish he would stay quiet and let the elderly man speak and ramble enough to spout nonsense. Biden sounded weak and incoherent when he was given the time to speak.

Lets be honest.

The difference between an overtly racist rally with actual white supremacists and a BLM riot is that the white supremacist rally is basically peaceful and everyone goes home and fucks their sister afterwords, white the BLM riot destroys property and livelihoods, and gets people hurt and killed. They're just as racist and just as filled with ignorant fuckwits.

Yes. I'm saying I'd rather have white racists than black-and-white racists.

FWIW:

My wife comes from a Republican family, though she's become more liberal and "centrist" in recent years.

She really thinks Trump's an asshole, she hates Biden too and feels she can't vote for either one, just like last time.

She watched the debate and actually told me she thought Trump did well, and Biden looked weak. She wants certain issues hammered, and she thought Trump did that. She's tired of the BLM/rioting shit, too. She defintely wants people in authority to stop pandering and making excuses for it.

More than anything else, women want security.
The 'order' part of 'law and order'.

He denounced it at the Chorlottesville press conference. Go back and watch it. He expressly denounced both "white supremacists" and even "white nationalists."

I really gave my hopes up. I thought this was going to be a debate where people would talk instead of being a shouting pissfest.

The only way this is going to be civil if the next moderator pulls a fucking Boogie and fires a warning shot at the stage when it gets like it did this time around.

It means they stand back and stand by. As in they don't do anything nor should they. Seems like you have a serious lack of communication skills if you don't understand that or the fact that you are just listening to more media bullshit spin.
