If she's bleeding, the hospital has an ER, and the hospital accepts Medicare (regardless of whether she has it, and most hospitals do accept it since it and Medicaid account for about 40% of revenue in the hospital industry), they legally have to treat her.

Basically, she could be a gorillion dollars in debt to their local ER, and it would have no impact on her receiving care. If she carries this baby to term, they are delivering that baby. The fines from CMS are quite hefty. They can bill her and put her in collections, but that's about it.

Cost is dependent on insurance. They aren't married, so their income is not counted jointly. She almost certainly qualifies for Medicaid on that basis.

Frankly, I think some people on this thread might be too obsessed with the cost of the pregnancy. They aren't married, so what's Ralph's real financial liability here?
