It seems that the problems here are self-inflicted or made up, and a lot of them come from his pigheaded unwillingness to admit that he’s Jake Alley. Now we have this bizarre narrative where a publisher decides, for no reason, to give Violet Hargrave’s credits to the mysteriously reclusive Jacob Alley. To add slightly to this, "woke" as a specific term stems from black civil rights movements where you were supposed to awaken and "stay woke" to your oppression. BLM in particular pushed and popularized it after discovering it in the civil rights archives. Like everything, upper class progressive whites adopted it, constructed it into a hardline ideology and corporatized it. The idea being tied to civil rights/oppression actually goes back even farther in American culture to the "wide awakes" who were abolitionists "wide awake" to the evils of slavery.

Basically, I'm saying that Jake is a big ol racist by appropriating the term from minorities and then declaring it a slur just because he hates seeing it used on Twitter. Also, that he would have supported slavery.

Good advice if you take Potato Nose at face value, but Jake hasn’t been ostracised because of a rumour, and I think even he secretly knows that. Granted, Zoe is also a shit, but the continuing reason for his unpopularity is that he’s simply an unpleasant person.
