I have to disagree. Joe clearly loves Hunter. That's something I have to sympathize with him over. You see him get testy when people bring up his kid. But despite the crack he smokes, the strippers he bangs, and the fact that he's the textbook example of a rich kid gone wild, Hunter Biden will never stop being Joe Biden's son. What I can't sympathize with Joe with is how he dealt with his son's demons. I can't truly fault a politician for using their connections to give their friends and family opportunities. But Hunter was flying all over the world gaining power and influence for daddy when he should have been chained to a bed at the Betty Ford Clinic receiving Ibogaine injections until he could keep a crack pipe out of his mouth for more than a week. So while I can sympathize with Joe for being a father, I can't sympathize with him for being a terrible one.

I don't even think it's the drugs influencing him. It's pure privilege, a life with no accountability. He has fucked up so many times and he still gets jobs, cash, whatever he wants handed to him by Daddy. It's the same as married Prince Andrew smiling, taking pictures at parties with the (trafficked) teenage girl he was fucking. You ask why he would do it if his dad's rich and influential but that's exactly why he does it. He can't conceive there will be consequences for either of them, I don't think it even crosses his mind.

Well, at least for the passed out smoking meth photo, I assume he might not have noticed the picture in his picture roll later that a literal crack whore took of him, or perhaps he deleted locally on his phone, but it had already been synced to his icloud and he didn't notice.
And as everyone else has said: it's because he's on meth. It's a fucking wild drug to be on, and probably one of the worst (or best depending on how you look at it). If you suddenly get the urge to get up and go for a walk after getting methed up, you can end up walking for 5 hours straight for a marathon distance. And god help you if you decide to start jerking off when you're on meth, because then you'll find yourself 13 hours later with your dick rubbed raw and a billion tabs of porn open. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. That shit makes you become less than human, and everyone in contact with you can tell.
So it's disgusting to me that a man of Joe Biden's wealth and power hasn't gotten his son clean, or at least cut him loose so as not to facilitate it.

Joe doesn't even drink alcohol because addiction runs in the family, so he's at least somewhat aware of how you have to handle addiction, which is not bailing your fuckup son out over and over and giving him millions of dollars. If/when Hunter finally ODs and dies Joe will be partially responsible.
