Darkest Dungeon 2

They implemented 3D, i don't know how to feel about this.
Models look alright when they are about the same size as the sprites in the first one, not so much on closeups.

Also its early access implying they changed a lot of things.
They're probably going for something like Hades, release it on EGS early, take Tim's free money and update it in segments before doing a 1.0 on every platform.

Darkest Dungeon was also Early access, though going EGS exclusive for this one kind of dampens the mood since people hate EGS ad don't want Steam to be only filled with anime games to entertain them in the interim

Darkest Dungeon had a really good modding community, the change to 3d is a fair bit of shame since it'll likely kill it
I mean, it'll depend, if the devs provide the needed tool kits I'm sure the modders can pull stuff off. For fuck sake, we have people making mods for OG Fallout games, Jagged Alliance, F3-NV-F4 an etc.

yeah, but i doubt as many of the modders could have even done 3d models rather than simple yet detailed spritework
but even then im mostly saying i dont think theres going to be official support

And maybe allow players to set the difficulty" of the stagecoach, something that could mitigate the loss of a lvl5-6 hero because that's the biggest setback/timewaster currently in the game.
Actually unavoidable deaths are genuinely rare. Almost any time you lose someone you actually fucked up.

This is probably the biggest minus. I'm not sure what kind of product you'd need to mod it like this but it's probably expensive. That said, even modding DD requires a very specific piece of software (Spine) that costs $99 for the "professional" version. At least if you wanted to add your own characters/animation which most mods did to some degree. Almost everything else is in xml files, and generally reasonably well commented although some mechanics are a bit obscure.

Hot Take: Who gives a fuck about the EGS timed exclusivity shit these days

Honestly I don't mind if games studios fund their actual development by delivering some stinking turd on EGS and then bringing it up to snuff before selling it. Put all that faggot Sweeney's money in a pile and burn it for the gods, then come back to the light side again. I won't resent it.

Is it really going to use 3D models or could this be just the trailer?
Probably just the trailer to be honest.

I'm not buying anything off EGS though, exclusivity or not. I got better things to do than install Chink spyware.

to be honest, literally every time someone talks about EGS it never seems to have any good points and is almost always bordering on if not past Mad At the Internet
It’s a shitty webstore with no good points. For years its been left so bare bones it didn’t even have a shopping cart.
Adding to this is third party exclusivity, which is almost unheard of on the PC. Nobody had an issue with Half Life or EA games being exclusive to a certain store, but gobbling up titles and at the same time just being a shit storefront overall are not going to endear Steam’s established fanbase.

Furthermore, I really don’t like the way Epic tries to play the victim all the time. “Oh boo hoo, Apple Store is unfair, so that gives us the right to break ToS. What? We got banned? Lawsuit time.” This is not the behavior of adults. This is cow behavior.

And all of it could have easily been avoided if the Epic Store was better than or on par with Steam feature wise. But instead all we get are excuses and bitching about how greedy some other company is.

It sucks shit. It's like bringing someone a plate of dicks and asking what they think of it, and calling them mad if they just say "yeah this is a plate of dicks, I don't want it, take it elsewhere."

People wouldn't be negative on it if the damn thing actually had something redeemable about it. Aside from giving devs money to last a year and throwing cash so they can give away free games, the Epic store has nothing else to offer. Its prices aren't super different from Steams (save for the Russian market), it still has no shopping cart, the updates come less as planned and more "fuck it let's put this thing despite it not working right and THEN try to fix it" and the list just goes on and on.

This is why I can't really blame game devs for taking these shitty exclusive offers though, at least if they haven't done something like crowdfund a game then take it to Epic and fuck their backers. Even then, that's forgivable if they throw in some free shit or whatever from Tim Sweeney's tard bucks to make up for the fuckover. For many devs, especially the indies, the next game is really determinative of whether they even continue to exist. So they have this morally gray choice of whether everyone at their place continues to have a job, or they gamble on it, or they take a giant pile of money from some absolute mongoloid, guaranteeing their tale goes on into the future. It's hard to turn down a guaranteed profit when your company's continued existence depends on your next game actually doing that.

Wait, you guys think its just for the trailer?
No way, the amount of work that went into making those and then adjusting sharers to work with them just to pose them in a way that's easily replaceable with 2d is just too much.
Also this kinda move would have just confused the audience for nothing. My bet is that the game looks like this now.

Shame about modded classes but seeing that DD modding community had a few people who could imitate the original style 1 to 1 i bet they'll find someone who can do those models too.
Actually making those isn't even all that hard if you know the basics, Supergigant just posted a video where they go over how to make those past the sculpting phase. Very similar style.

Forcing you to install Steam to get HL2 was actually pretty controversial at the time. People (including me) seriously resented it. That said, what were you going to do, just not play HL2? People forgave them because despite being ass raped, you got to play HL2.
Nah man the DD modding community has some exceptional indivuals.
Anime retard modders who put anime shit into everything are the worst.

Love the 3d models, but that wasn't the problem.
The grind is shit. Building multiple parties, so you aren't wiped out is even more shit.
The voice acting, atmosphere, graphics, and story is all great.
But games are mostly about GAMEplay (for me, at least). The gameplay is a shitty, boring, grind.
git gud

BTW: The opening line is perfect for 2020-The Darkest Decade.
The first 30 seconds was almost more 2020 than the riots/Cyberpunk 2077 mashups.
