Looks like there's one more round of China-related drama ahead for Hololive. Should just be an especially violent death throe since the group is no longer coming back, but it's not going to be pretty.
There seemed to be a revitalized influx of dislikes on Coco's videos after the initial wave died down. Turns out, nationalists have begun rallying behind Aqua, believing her to be secretly in support of getting rid of Coco since she was the only one of two who didn't mention her name in recent tweets. They actually took it pretty hard when Cover as a whole decided to completely pull from China, considering the company to be traitorous for letting all their support for the group go to waste in search for less hostile pastures. In a way, they aren't wrong; Hololive was a fledgling little thing in the beginning that was struggling to go anywhere. Sora's very first stream opened up to a rip-roaring audience of... 13 viewers. It is actually thanks to the work of translators on Billibilli and exclusive streams that Hololive was able to initially garner a presence, with translated clips reaching across the internet. The group wouldn't have become the massive powerhouse it is now without its partnership with Billibilli.
However, Chinese viewers always had an axe to grind with Coco. Not only did she not have a Billibilli account, but she's famous for deliberately pushing the limit with permissible Hololive content and becoming an unofficial ambassador of the brand for the overseas audience thanks to her command of the English language. Her accidentally mentioning Taiwan was the last evidence they needed to fully believe she was anti-China and thus must be purged. So, as we all know, they gave Cover an ultimatum when that shitstorm happened: either she goes, or they go. Problem is, according to calculations Billibilli donations nowadays only bring in about 5% of Cover's total revenue, whereas Coco has been topping the charts as one the most popular female superchat earners, if not the most. Not only that, her popularity with overseas fans and close friendships with the other idol girls pretty much made her almost as much of a bedrock to Hololive as their producer, YAGOO. The suspension itself had already damaged Cover's reputation across the world - if she is fired, there will be Riots with a capital R. So of course Cover decided to cut the cord that they could go without nowadays.
Which brings me back to Aqua, who is now seeing an increase in subscribers from the latter even though Cover is already lighting the bridge on fire and never looking back. Nationalists are hoping she is on their side, because she was supposed to have a China-exclusive event that is now cancelled for obvious reasons, featuring a music cover that has just been released on her Billibilli account. Nationalists are taking this and her lack of directly mentioning Coco on Twitter as a sign that she is supporting their crusade to drag Hololive's name into the mud.
Here's the thing about Aqua though; she is an incredibly meek and introverted person. She's such a nervous wreck that she has admitted that she can't even speak to waiters to take her order, relying on her friends to help her out. Furthermore, she's one of the least proficient members at the English language, and the song cover she was doing was a Chinese/English mix that also contained some rap, so she had been spending a long time trying to perform it perfectly in anticipation for the event. The music cover appearing on her account was a case of not wanting to let all that hard work go to waste, while also serving as a final parting gift for Hololive's remaining CN fans.
Unfortunately for the nationalists now seeing her as their Jeanne d'Arc, in all likelihood Coco and Aqua are on good terms. Aqua has ironically gotten into trouble with Billibilli fans before, again due to circumstances beyond her control (something regarding a mistranslated schedule?), where she was forced to make an official apology to tide things over. Coco shortly afterwards did a collab stream with her, where she consoled the girl and discussed about how there will always be a 1%+ in the audience that will hate your guts, no matter how big your fanbase gets, or how hard you try to appease everyone. Aqua being quiet on the subject was likely her way of just wanting to exit the scene as softly as possible, which unfortunately won't be happening for the next two weeks.
The fun part about this is that in other circumstances they would have succeeded, the thing was Vchubbing is now a international thing like anime, if the entire thing was still a niche japanese thing if would probably have worked, the problem is that the western fandom became so huge that China doesn't have the manpower or the simp money (they CANT superchat) to control the wave of autism, Coco comeback went without any issues because the simps were watching like hawks for any stench of communism, they also tried to stir shit with Fubuki and were BTFO, now they have to seethe because lost their own Holos and did not succeed in yeeting Coco
You can also use Coco as example of how subscriber counts doesn't matter, she and Rushia are the top earners and Coco has now a position where if she wanted she could create more branchs of Holos, there is a joke that if she keep singing despacito Hololive Spanish would become a thingbut also that that she has as much respect for Coco as anyone else.
