So with ACB's confirmation tonight, I tried talking to a TDS suffering family member. It honestly wasn't worth it. He got so emotional over politics it was shocking.
1) We should abandon the Constitution because the men who wrote it were slave owners. They had no concept of modern life, so we should just wholesale throw it away. That was his justification of removing one of the best written forms of government that allowed us to be a super power in just 200 years. Some of the best thinkers in all of history put it together. Note, he wants to wholesale get rid of it.
2) Believes we should be a completely direct Democracy. I tried to tell him that we're a Republic and switching forms of government isn't easy, but he doesn't care.
3) Massively pump up the taxes on the rich. I tried to warn him that they'll just leave and he said 'good'. He felt that they could be replaced and I was honestly astonished to think that he could just substitute the money and revenue from Amazon by someone else who would develop it. Like, that tax revenue is just gone. You're talking about jobs and carving holes in our economy left and right.
4) Abolish the electoral college. He's still salty over Trump winning. I tried to warn him that this would probably threaten the Union and that this would only change how campaigning was done, it wouldn't guarantee his people would win.
5) Pack the court. He thinks that ACB nomination is court packing. His argument basically boiled down to 'Its not fair Republicans have had the majority of Judges'. I tried to tell him this was extremely dangerous and that it wouldn't lead to anything good but he kept cutting me off. It seems like he didn't really know what court packing was, honestly.
6) Make D.C. a state. He said it had 8 million(?) people. It only has 700k. It also wouldn't change its electoral votes, but it would become basically 100% Democrat, which is why it would never get done.
7) Nationalism leads to fascism. It was kind of baffling. But what he really meant was jingoism, which is a militant form of nationalism.
It was just these Democrat talking points and he got very emotional. Hell, one thought I was actually a pure Republican. Sorry I'm not fully indoctrinated and have a mind of my own. He still believes snopes and shit like that, which is hysterical. Not to mention half of this shit would NEVER get done by the DNC. I tried telling him that too, but again, he still wanted to vote for Biden. You have to vote for what's in front of you. Not what you wish for on a star.
