I really doubt he has anything they haven't seen, and actually think it might make for good comedy and break him out of the do-nothing cycle.
My point is, those are people trying to save their lives and Dax is a try-hard wannabe comedian/edgelord who also loves to dispense retarded advice like “Stop taking your meds, they’re only for pussies.” They come to meetings to avoid being obnoxious drunks, not to watch the biggest loser of them all stage his retarded performances. If he wants to perform for addicts and alcoholics so badly, save it for Road Rage Tampa.

Considering how preachy and obnoxious AA meetings would go, Dax would try to be the preachiest asshole in the room. So not an absolute disaster.
I guess they might be preachier in a place like LA, but the one time I attended one it was mostly just ex-cons talking about the crazy shit they used to do. Though it was kinda 'tarded because listening to their stories made me think drugs and alcohol were the least of their problems since they were talking about how they'd go around casually committing various felonies like carjacking and armed robbery when they were young.

That’s the point: they have no hope in hell of treating their main problem (untreated trauma and emotional problems/immaturity) if they’re just pouring alcohol and substances on their everyday lives. The drugs and alcohol are part of how they “manage” their lives (or think they do). If you’re Dax, 40 and still think every day is perfect for getting wasted, and think it’s cool to get alcohol and fake IDs for teenagers, the last thing you need to be doing is indulging that insanity.

Sean and Dick have actually both said that AA isn’t exactly for them and their mindsets, in more than one episode. Both have kind of different reasoning, though.
Sean seems to think, ‘if it works for you, that’s a great thing’, but that he is not particularly responsive to the almost religious aspect of it. He seems to actually address underlying issues and its clearly working out for him.
Dick has a different way of doing things, obviously. He knows it’s bad for him, but he rationalizes it and I honestly don’t think AA would even do anything for him. He’s very contrarian by default as is, especially for something that temporarily makes him feel good. He likes it, fuck off, and that’s that with him really. You can’t exactly change that without some serious work on his part.

AA meetings always sounded like they boil down to helping you replace your addiction with faith. But you're not gonna get over your addiction unless you really want to, and considering how Dax is already staunchly atheist, AA wouldn't do shit for him.

They'd make for some of the most interesting guests all year.

Got any more details on this? I know he's been accused by Tranny the Hedgehog and some others of under-appreciating and under-paying his artists.

I mean like numbers as well. I think the going rate for a TDS thumbnail is $50.
Tranny the Hedgehog here. It's been a while I'm anywhere near the "inner circle" of things.

The going rate was $50 around the time I left, but it wasn't implied by him - that's what he would pay to other "girl" artists that he already had more close ties with. He'd come to the special Artist server without any grandeur introduction or an @ callout whatsoever, he'd just go "ok is 50 fine hehesillycomics?" or something. Around that time I was able to catch him and also send him an invoice and that's how I would get my compensation. Otherwise it's very difficult to have him respond to your emails. Not that he rarely checks it, it's Dick, he just conveniently skips those ones.

Before that, no price talk would ever be initiated, mostly because this is unwarranted territory for most of us to make custom 2-day artwork for a show. Should we ask for 50? Should we ask for 250, because such stuff usually scale up by the professionalism of the gig and not ALWAYS by the quality (I tried to bring my best at all times, obviously.) We don't know that, and we don't want Dick to be "no, that's too much, sorry, bye" so we kind of expect Dick to come in and kind of give pointers regarding compensation. Turns out he hates doing that. My "accusation" wasn't even that, I was just merely pointing out to him that such behavior has the chance of coming off weird, it has the chance of coming off like Dick hopes that nobody asks for any compensation and that's why he doesn't really like to kind of open the door about that. I don't disagree with the notion that, if you're selling something you have to remind people that you're selling something at ALL times, but that sentiment can also be used as an excuse by people who profit off of other people's complacency.

But so anyway all I did was to raise a little concern. I honestly have even offered Dick to stop compensating me for my work after the first one since I live in Turkey, and Turkish citizens can't get Paypal accounts without US bank accounts, which I have none. It was always a nightmare to find ways to compensate me so I told him not to even bother (All due respect to him, he chose to instead go for my second option which is to compensate a friend in need that I have in the US instead, whenever I'm due money). I didn't care much, I just wanted to be a part of things and I just didn't want others to get steamrolled due to what I had assumed Dick's usual lackadaisy behavior. I had started approaching newcomer artists about what they "could expect", which I would then say "I happen to see that $50 is the going rate, I'd suggest you talk to Dick about this as he will NEVER start the conversation himself". One such artist never ended up making a thumbnail for the show. What if he did and didn't know what to expect after Dick put him in the compensation limbo? I thought I was helping by clearing the confusion but then I did realize nobody even asked me to do this, and you get shit for trying to be helpful.

Anyway, so I told Dick about all that in that fateful day. He threw all the nuance right out of the window and called me a "money-grubbing-cunt" even then, you know, I haven't been really partaking in any money paid for 7 other thumbnails I did for the show (although, again, for fairness's sake, he had been giving those 50 bucks to my friend instead -but again he knows I'm not getting money out of him personally). And then everyone was misled into believing I was trying to get a raise by trying to raise a public stink or something. So that was super fun.

I’ve never seen anyone try so hard to not pay anyone like Maddax. Generally high income earners have a dollar value associated with their time and realize it’s just easier to pay something like $50 to resolve a situation that takes more than a few minutes of discussion. It’s like the losers at work that spend 30 minutes bickering about an assignment that takes five minutes to complete. Dax is a retard.

If you ever try to explain that to him, his main response is "Everyone just wants your money. If you're rich and talk to people, they all talk about your money, and how I should be spending it." Suddenly it's turned around on how we're all greedy and jealous. It's... 50 bucks man. Whatever.

You're the one hiring these people, shaking your Patreon figure on all our faces, screaming about how rich you are on your show, and can't believe people around you know that? But yeah that's just us poor people getting fixated around robbing you, I guess. Fucking hell.

Thank you for the post, very informative. But, why don't you want him to say no? Are you that desperate to be the one to make the thumbnail and see your art on the show? Is everyone in the server desperate to make $50? With such a high supply and only one weekly demand, it's hardly a good moneymaking strategy.

If you want a phrase that will really help out newcomer artists, it's "I can begin work once you send me the payment, here's how you can send it."

It gives a pretty good insight into how poorly he thinks of his fans and those who work for him. He thinks nobody he knows would know what it’s like to make a six figure income, own a house, be a homecoming king, or have a girlfriend. Dax wants to be the biggest fish even if it means being in a very tiny and autistic pond. It also perfectly explains why he has embraced his incel audience fanbase and why he wanted to start NP2 to begin with.

Yeah, the prospect of attaching your artwork to something "bigger than yourself" gets to our heads sometimes. That's when some artists grow more complacent about "working for exposure", thinking the exposure would be really big to warrant that sort of sacrifice. This more happens in journalism than anything else but yeah. It's really not the 50 bucks tho, it's the privilege to say " I worked for a big podcast", and it sucks when the podcaster themselves knows that.

In any case it all happened a long time ago and if anything, everyone came out of it a little more educated. Perhaps even Dick, if not what he got out of it the most is "Sometimes, some people just get angry at you, nobody can explain this phenomenon."

Yeah in retrospect that's a really good one.

Sean's got a point, it's not an almost religious aspect, it's an actually religious aspect. The organization was founded by Christians pushing God as a solution to alcohol and one of the twelve steps is "admit you are powerless over alcohol and give yourself over to a higher power". It used to be more explicitly Christian but toned that down a bit as judges started sentencing people to AA and pushy atheists got pushed into their God club

Not a huge scoop but Andy Warski had Jesse from PodAwful on his show last night to discuss Dick Masterson. It was what you'd expect in terms of quality from a Warski program but the thing worth noting is that Andy and the rest of his audience are now all convinced that Dick did in fact head Jesse getting kicked off Patreon. Here's to hoping it divides the NP2 mafia further.

Also Andy is stealing @TheSimpShow's bit. Whenever he does an impression of Dick he just breaks into the Moe voice.

Not gonna lie, I don't mind people replacing their addictions with faith. People need something to believe in, and the hedonistic nihilism that Dax (and to a lesser extent Jim) indulge in is harmful both to society and the individual.
