A good thread on pre-canvassing in Pennsylvania.

Basically, a lot of counties are only going to start counting mail-in ballots on Nov 4th, so that they can dedicate their full time on Election Day to the in-person voting and ballots. This means that we won't get proper totals until they start in on the bulk of VBM the next day.

Apparently every single county in PA asked the state legislature to let them do pre-canvassing, which is counting the mail-in ballots before Election Day. A deal between the Republicans and Democrats was supposedly in the works, but it fell through, and both sides blame the other. So now on Election Day, we'll only get the in-person results, plus the number of already-received VBM ballots to be opened on the next day.

Cumberland County has roughly 250k population. It's going to be a horrible, nerve-wracking 48 hours.

Maybe there's a silver lining here, because a guy like Barnes thinks that knowing ahead of time how many votes you're behind due to early voting, means it's easier to use ballot stuffing in deep blue precincts to steal it. If all these places are simultaneously counting mail-ins the next day, you're less likely to see that kind of chicanery.
