I'm going to hell for saying that's aren't I?
Is your last name Snyder? Do you celebrate Haunaka/Chaunaka/Konica/Chanukkah? Do you make your cookies in the shape of candles? If not you're probably safe.

But if any of those are the case, I would like to invite you to a camp of mine... for a vacation...

Hitler, this story is fucking awesome.

Honestly, no, no, a million times no. There's no way you could rewrite Sonichu to be a serious comic, IMO. It's too ridiculous/autistic.

I actually tried to pull this off once and I had the entire foundation for the story laid out, but I never got past the second chapter because there's just too much going on for me to justify spending time to sit down and write a story. That, and I lost half of my first chapter transitioning between computers. However, like I said, I still have the entire foundation for the story laid out so I'll tell you guys about it.

I'd go down the gritty reboot path, more or less removing any specific references to copyrighted materials and real people (barring Chris and his family), though their character archetypes will remain to an extent (mostly troll depictions though as well as some of Chris' depictions). Rather than the various Sonichus being based off of Sonic and Pikachu, they will be genetic experiments, particularly abusive genetic experiments on animals. Any of the crazy ideas here could only be presented as incredibly dark, otherwise you really couldn't do anything with them and they'd be too ridiculous for a comedy.

While the Sonichus (for a lack of a better term, they wouldn't actually have a specific species in the story) would be generally good-natured, Chris would be a horrendous tyrant, running CWCVille as a dictatorship. The reason for this would be having absolute power like in the comics, changing the currency to a senseless denomination, setting up offices in the central mall, mandated Dating Education, no sense of economy whatsoever, government spying, mass murder, rampant racism and bigotry, and prosecution against those JERKS adding to the Infinitely High Boyfriend Factor. The Sonichus would work together to restore the country to what it used to be.

It would start out with Bob having control over CWCVille (which would have a different, more sensible name), being a prosperous king in an executive constitutional monarchy, keeping the country in good economical shape, the people extremely happy, and everything going great. Both Christian and Liquid Chris (under the names Ian and Christopher respectively) are his sons, however because Liquid is older, he is in line to inherit the throne. Chris, to put it lightly, does not like that one bit and goes out of his way to vilify both Liquid and Bob. Through his family's wealth and name, he is able to form a resistance, though it's closer to a cult, and starts a research program to create a superior life form. Chris has drawn in his notebook since he was a kid and is a massive enough idiot with a massive enough ego to think that it's actually prophetic and can be made through genetics, thus starting the search.

The problem here lies in that he is stealing dogs to research on by sending members of his resistance to steal them. This is how the main character gets involved, who really isn't based on anyone, though I suppose I could make an argument for Wes Iseli (though renamed Andrew Leon) since he's a rival to Chris at a few points, I guess. He is a veterinary researcher which explains his interest in what's happening to all these dogs and has his dog stolen by Chris' resistance. He starts a relentless search to find his dog. The same thing happens to Kel (who actually has a purpose in this story), whose dog has been stolen by Chris as well.

For better or for worse, Chris' genetic experimentation actually works, turning Andrew's dog into the parallel for Sonichu and Kel's dog into the parallel for Rosechu. However, the scientist doing the research (who is based off Troll!Bill the Scientist) hates this research and breaks out Sonichu and Rosechu (they aren't created at the same time). After this, Chris starts a coup on Bob. Seeing this, Bob sends away Liquid to safety and puts up an extremely good fight against Chris. However, Chris kills him and succeeds in taking over the kingdom.

After this, he turns it into CWCVille starts up on the insane policies and making multitudes of Sonichus (including the parallels for the Chaotic Combo). If I went into detail on tons of the plot points I'd be here forever. But one is closing down all public education for Chris' mandated Dating Education, where women are forcefully put into relationships with single guys. This angers the dean of the major public college of CWCVille, who is a parallel to Mary Lee Walsh (troll!Mary Lee Walsh), for multiple reasons. Eventually, Sonichu reunites with Andrew, Rosechu finds Kel, Kel and Andrew find each other. They find Liquid, who wants nothing more than to avenge his father's death and restore order, and they find Mary Lee Walsh, who wants things to go back to normal. They all form an alliance to take down Chris' empire and put Liquid in the throne where he rightfully belongs to restore order and find justice.

All of Chris' insane ideas would be interpreted about as dark as they could be, and the resulting CWCVille would be a dystopia of massive proportions. Like I said, the only way this could work with having Chris' batshit insane ideas is to make them as terrifying as they truly are. Sonichu as it currently stands is just simply impossible to write as a quality comic or quality story without some massive overhauls or just completely changing everything (like what I've done, and even then it's still probably not good).

So yeah, it's probably horrible. But I'd figure I'd add my two cents to the thread. I've got the first chapter done, although it really doesn't have much to do with anything until later chapters are ever written and everything falls into place. Let me know if you want to hear anything else about it or see the first chapter, but like I said it's probably a terrible idea.

*HALF A YEAR OLD EDIT* - Seeing this post on the new forum makes me think that this post is autistic levels of tl;dr so I spoilered it.

As interesting an idea as Hitler has, I agree with this. A beautiful house build out of substandard materials is still a shitty house.

Liquid Squirtle, this is amazing so far. Love to read more.

A lot of these rewrites stretch the definition of rewrite; they're really reimaginings in my opinion. I don't think that Sonichu as a whole can be rewritten to not stuck, bit it may be sorta possible if the author focuses on the Sonichu episodes alone.

Well, if you're going off the definition of a rewrite in this case as taking Chris' stories, episodes, and entire comics at face value and doing a rewrite based off of that alone, it would be completely impossible to do so.

The main thing is that in some instances, things can be fixable if you can see that there was a good outlying idea with some bad writing decisions throwing it off. In the case of Sonichu, the core, underlying ideas of both the early comics and the post-sub-episode comics are bad. In the case of the former, it is fundamentally bad because no matter which way you slice it, you're dealing with the adventure of a recolor and his recolor friends, who have very little personality to speak of beyond gotta go fast, zap to the extreme, and getting into Rosechu's pants. This is alongside card-carrying villains who are evil for the sake of being evil and have no intentional redeeming qualities (whether that's the case in reality is...eh, look at how awesome the troll depictions of everyone are). These combinations allow for the stories to be written the way they are, with no threat whatsoever from the villains and a curbstomp battle in the end of each episode taking place in a few panels. Or one. Or even in just a text box. Even taking into consideration that it's a combination of two franchises normally aimed at children, there is still a certain level of whimsical adventure you could put in to make something work and I can see how Chris attempted to capture that whimsical feeling in the early issues. It failed miserably for sure though. However, the only reason why Chris was able to make those storylines the way that they were in the first place was because of a complete lack of characterization, Saturday-Morning-Cartoon style villains, his love of cliches, and his lack of interest in drawing. In order to make them work as a legitimately good story, there would have to be some massive overhauls to everything in order to fit in originality, charm, character development, and pretty much anything else in writing 101 that Chris is blissfully unaware of. It'd just be impossible to do a competent straight rewrite.

In the case of the latter, they just simply wouldn't work as heroic stories in their current form in any sort of traditional rewrite is because the core idea behind these is a Marty Stu living out his wish fulfillment. There is absolutely no way to do anything with the storylines because rather than being a storyline in search of that edge needed to entertain people, it's a self-gratifying ego trip in search of a storyline to keep up a false pretense. There would no way to be able to take these later Sonichu issues without either changing the perspective or outright changing entire stories in order for them to actually be kinda decent.

Which is why you're left with Hitler and I proposing stories which would fall closer to a reimagining than an actual rewrite or reboot (although for some reason I really don't like the word reimagining. It's a lot like how I hate the word cottage for some reason). This may also be the only time I ever talk about myself doing something alongside Hitler. Except maybe eating sugar. Also I can't believe I just pulled a completely serious literary analysis on Sonichu.

*HALF A YEAR OLD EDIT* Like the post above, with the new change in forum layout this post is autistic levels of tl;dr and I have spoilered it for the sake of readability.

-Punchy and Magi-chan match up, Magi-chan wins easily, Magi-chan is very arrogant in character because of his intelligence and looks down on Punchy. Punchy is characterized as the dumb muscle with a short fuse in this remake, Punchy dislikes the way Magi-chan views him but is forced to recognize his superiority. Punchy declares Magi-chan his rival and vows to one day defeat him.

Reminds me of Renji Abarai from Bleach... Shit, he even looks like a furry version of him. O_O

If Allen Moore did a run on it. Could you imagine?

Now THAT is something I'd pay to see!

Im seeing either a "league of extraordinary gentlemen" type crossover between various troll creations and sonichu characters, or (shudder) a lost girls type erotica between IRL-Chris, Comic-Chris, and Sammy-Chris (feel free to weep now)

Nah, it will be a "League of Extraordinary Sonichus".

I still have my own attempt. I tried to stay sort of true to the storyline. I wasn't very good with a mouse and I only had MS Paint. Here was one of my favorite pages though:

Nonsense. Any idea, no matter how inane and broken can be alchemized into something amazing....in the hand of a creative and courageous writer.

Case in point: B'wana Beast.

This was an utter Mort of the Month, conceptually lame, embarrassingly written and even faintly racist comic book superhero from the late 1960's.
He was justly forgotten until the mid 80's when Grant Morrison revamped him -- twice -- in the pages of Morrison's run on Animal Man. Under Morrison's control, he was turned into an fascinating character; and then the civilian alter-ego "retired" and handed the identity over to a new character, in a way that removed the vaguely creepy colonialist feel to the concept.

If a loser like B'wana Beast can be redeemed, ANYBODY can.

Wow, nicely done. This kind of makes me want to re-design all the Chus as non-infringing magic humanoids or at least something decent to look at.

I can't draw Sonics for shit so if I did make a comic the characters would all look pretty human. I tried drawing Rosechu as she would look after her match with Sonichu
nn8n07.png

I changed how she's colored a bit because Chris' color scheme for her really clashes and looks awful, I also didn't bother shading because fuck that.

But Hitler, I thought you got kicked out of art school because you couldn't draw people.

I feel the biggest problem is the terrible character designs. But then again, a whole series that satirizes typical Sonic OCs could work? Some sort of comic that starts off being stupid and fleshes out into something great?

If I were to rewrite this and if it was possible it could go two ways.
One is to play up the ridiculous plot for humour in a similar manner to how it is done in The Venture Brothers. The storyline would remain much the same with all the hammy seriousness left in tact but the characters would acknowledge some things like how everybody suddenly forgot about Crystal when a new enemy comes up. That could be an entire conflict between Chris and the Chaotic Combo. If this were the case the poor attempts at humour which Chris wrote in the original would be re-written to make fun of themselves. I don't know how it'd co because of how ridiculous it is but we'd see.

The second way is more of a retelling, in this case Sonichu and the Chaotic Combo are Chris's reluctant skivvies who fight unwillingly almost for Chris and his petty little grudges against well intentioned people who happen to have disagreed with OPL at some point in his journey. Often or not these "fights" turn out to be them apologizing for Chris, paying the enemy to look beat up for them or to disappear and then fooling Chris into thinking that he's won. It would eventually be revealed why the Sonichus are working for Chris and why they can't escape from his grasp. The chaotic combo eventually find out that Barb the enabler spoilt Chris to shut him up by divulging in his little fantasy of having his own army of idiots, from this she got wind of Sonichu and Rosechu as a species and rammsacked the species, capturing the chaotic combo and causing the extinction of the rest of the species so they didn't come back for their children and ruin her little manchild's dream. It is also revealed that Chris is only the mayor simply because he whined and moaned about how things never went his way so in another effort to shut him up Borb gave him Cwcville and set up a system so that he could be under the illusion he ruled the city when in reality other people ensured the smooth running of the city, occasionally giving Chris the toys such as the office to make him think he was the boss. After learning this Sonichu and company realize that they are resigned to appease Chrisfor the rest of their lives to avoid the wrath or Borb/Barb who could basically destroy them. The resolution to this piece of shit would be self sacrifice from the Sonichus who sacrifice themselves in a hope for the children they have can escape the steaming pile known as Cwcville and lead a better life so that the last of the Sonichu species live in an existence unhindered by Chris before eventually dying in peace, thus spelling the extinction of a species.
